The Labour Party Conference is being held in Liverpool. Time was when these events were held at coastal towns. Here I am aged 20 speaking at Scarborough in 1960 when Hugh Gaitskell made his famous " Fight, fight and fight again " speech. Anyone else alive who spoke there?

Can people of all parties and none agree that Sir Ed Davey wouldn't have been a good spy?

Just out of curiosity… who out there has actually talked to someone born in the 1800s during their lifetime?

For the first time in several years, January 1, 2026 is on 1/1/1. This phenomenon will not happen again until 2035.

£15 from Marks & Spencer's Eastbourne on Friday. See how tired the roses are on Sunday. Not good enough.

Shame on Aston Villa for leaving it so late in issuing tickets for semifinal. I am 84 and have to travel from Sussex and stay overnight. Very poor indeed

I don’t where this nonsense comes from but the LCC and GLC owed so much to the female members as did local government generally in London and elsewhere. Read the history before making these comments.
Thank you @libdemdaisy this would truly modernize local authorities, and would be absolutely the right step forward in encouraging more women to get involved. We know so many women are hindered by an outdated system that reflects its male origins of centuries old! @LibDemWomen

Who else has really enjoyed watching Just Stop Oil losing their shit today over their band of goons getting sent to jail? It’s pretty entertaining, I can't lie 😅

This week I've been called a “traitor” and “disgrace”, just for wanting to swear an oath to my constituents and democracy. I've been forced to swear allegiance to the Monarch & his successors. The confected outrage is covering up a much bigger issue. Here's what I think that is.

The late Lord Hailsham when he was Ld Chancellor faced Queen Elizabeth and made the perilous journey down the steps. The Duke of Edinburgh watched intently and joked that he felt like a fielder at “ forward short leg” ready to catch if necessary.
Very disappointing that the new Lord Chancellor has continued to eschew the tradition of walking backwards after handing the King his speech. We need to bring this back. Turning your back to the King isn’t a good look, and walking backward is fun!

Where does all end? In those days, Streatham was in Surrey. My own South London connections are stronger and longer than most who post here but I do get fed up with this.
Just what is called Tooting Bec Common today was then called Streatham Common- Streatham Parish - and most still has a Streatham postcode including the lido

Perhaps a shame his voters cannot choose again
The utter melt, Clive Lewis MP, has been forced to re-take his affirmation to the King after complaints made to the House of Commons Clerk 😂👏🏻

That is superb
Apparently, when Gareth passed his resignation to the FA, they passed it back, he then passed it sideways to Bellingham, who fed Kane, who then passed it to the keeper.

Farage and Bercow squabble. Remember what Dr Johnson said about setting the precedence between a louse and a flea.

Done this from 1958 until few years ago. Always stood just outside Polling Station. Time was when parties did their own poll cards and voters could hand it to “ their” teller.
