My 4 year old boy roped my wife into buying him his own hammer at the farm store yesterday. This evening I walked outside to him hammering my deck screws into a block of wood in the backyard (I bought a bucket of 1000 years ago and have no current plans for them). My natural reaction is to tell him that those cost money so we shouldn’t waste them (a true statement and a lesson we’ll have to learn someday), but then I caught myself. How proud would I be in a few years to have a boy under the age of 10 who can hammer a nail with a higher level of skill than most men these days? How about if my 4 year old could do that? Well, that’s an easy question to answer. So instead I took his picture and told him how cool he was. He finished the day with 21 screws hammered home in that stump. He started and finished every one himself, and he only bent and broke 1 along the way. Any chance you get to foster a love for hard work and masculine skills in your boys, take it. $3.87 worth of screws will be nothing in comparison to a capable man to carry on your name.

50K Trail Race this Weekend in Idaho🤘🏻 There are a handful of guys from Refuge signed up to go run it and we’ve been training and talking about it a lot. There are plenty of reasons why I enjoy these races, but I think one of my favorite aspects of an ultra is the fact that this is a test you can’t cram for. Even a full week out from the race there’s no measurable amount of fitness you can gain that will make a difference. You’ve either put in the miles leading up or you haven’t. There are no last second schemes or tricks that’ll help. The race will reveal whether or not you’ve put in the work. It’s simple and belligerent. I love that.

I want to show you something. A peek into the programming. What does it mean to be Iranian? Will you reduce the Iranian people to the color of their skin? Are we at war with Iran because Iranians are ”brown”? Of course not. You understand immediately that “Iranian” identifies something historically and culturally particular and tied to a homeland. Not a skin color. But in this discussion, you hear “white” and suddenly you only think skin color. My brother in Christ, if you’re white and reading this, you are white. Are you more than your skin color? Of course you are. You cannot answer, “Well, I'm a Christian and a citizen of heaven.” That’s not what we’re talking about. We’re talking about earthly things. Your heavenly citizenship no more abolishes your earthly peoplehood than it abolishes your family. But such an answer is part of the problem because the implication is either that it doesn't mean anything to be white or that it doesn't matter. “White” itself is not a nation. Englishmen, Irishmen, Frenchmen, Italians are not one interchangeable people merely because they’re white. But neither did these peoples cease to possess ancestry because someone classified them all as “white.” When I say “white” the emphasis is not merely on the color of the skin. I’m talking about descent - about the particular people from whom I came, their history, their memory, their culture, their place. Race, people, nation, and citizenship are not interchangeable categories. But neither are they unrelated. White people exist. European peoples exist. And those peoples are no more reducible to pigmentation than anyone else. We’ve been taught to perform that reduction on ourselves. “Why can’t white Christians have a nation?” Before asking what white, people, or nation even means, many respond: “The question itself is sinful!” Why? If other peoples may remember their ancestors, cherish their inheritance, preserve their culture, love their homeland, and desire continuity between generations, why does that become wicked when European peoples do it? “The question itself is sinful!” Stop reducing white identity to the color of our skin. The elites don't want you to know this, white boy, but you can just remember who you are. Deprogram.

Chilly, overcast fall day. We started the workout in our sweatshirts. We’re going to inhale some ground beef & rice when we get home. Personally, I didn’t illicit any progression in the gym today. It was still 10/10. A new phase of life is beginning and I’m so stoked.

“Experts are masters of the basics.” I love that even after 20 years of training I can still push myself hard with the same movements that I’m teaching to my 4 year old son. There’s something comforting about knowing there are some things you’ll never outgrow.

A lot of quotes from this prophetic novel are haunting as we watch France burn. “Your world means nothing to them. They won’t try to understand. They’ll be tired. They’ll be cold. They’ll build a fire with your lovely oak door.” “There is no longer such a thing as the Third World, that’s just a word you’ve invented to keep your distance. There’s just the world, and this world will be submerged by life. This country of mine is but a river of sperm that has abruptly changed course and is now flowing West.” “Should there die of hunger, among the billions of human beings on earth, a single Indian in the Andes, a single Negro in Chad, or a single Pakastani - citizens of free nations all, responsible for their fate and proud to be so - then the West is obliged to plunge itself into the agonies of repentance.” “Public opinion was thus once again made aware that ‘racism’ in the cause of self-defense is the scourge of humanity.” “It must have been written in the Book of Fate, under the chapter “White Men”, that any flashes of common sense, any sparks of courage, any reflexes of self-preservation would remain isolated, secret, or distorted, so that no meaningful whole might emerge to influence events.” “The beast sees to it that public opinion is content with passively sitting by.” “Cursed shall be the white race the day it is no longer willing to express essential truths, even if just in hushed tones and for itself, for want of a better alternative! That day was about to dawn.” “You Westerners, you should have held fast to your steely contempt. Maybe then you could have done something? And now you’re dying of fear. Something irreversible is in the works, and if we see it through to the end, you will have fully deserved it and no one will put up a fight. Not even in your country, which just goes to prove how decadent you are.” Something is in the works, but it’s not irreversible. Multiculturalism is a sham. A failed experiment destined, even designed, to fail. It is for some Christians an over-realized and twisted eschatology. It is a political ideology wherein preserving distinct groups in the same space is the goal, no assimilation into the inherited national culture required, or even expected. Multiculturalism asserts that every culture bumping into each other within one society must be equally accommodated without regard for the cultural history of that society. Cultures clash. People sin. While enriching cultural exchange can happen while sin remains, culture is not morally neutral. If multiple populations, multiple ethnicities, multiple cultures, dwelling together, conflict fundamentally about who God is, marriage, sexuality, blasphemy, liberty, male and female, law, punishment, family, education, and government, mere proximity will not resolve the problem. They’ll kill each other and eventually mix themselves into oblivion. A satanic plot. A reversible one. The Scripture envisions distinct peoples, not an amalgamated, deracinated mass. “The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.” — Revelation 21:24 Ethnic/cultural distinction survives. Because it’s good. God made it. What unites diverse peoples is Christ, not diversity itself. Diversity is not, in fact, our strength. “a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb” — Rev. 7:9 This passage describes redeemed people under the New Covenant, not a blueprint for manufacturing heaven-on-earth. It is the present reality of the redeemed people of God within the borders of their respective nations, normatively (Acts 17:26). One day the nations of the earth will be free from sin and dwell alongside one another without war (Isa. 2:4). For now? Preach the Gospel. Send them all back.

Someday, Lord-willing, I’ll grow old. My joints will ache. My legs won’t respond when my mind attempts to push the gas pedal down. My lungs will seize from strain. All of this is coming regardless of how I use the gift of this body I’ve been given today. Someday the tops of those mountains will be out of my reach. I refuse to squander these opportunities while the fire still burns strong. I’ll feed the flame. I’ll keep piling wood on in the hopes that I can keep it burning a little while longer.

As a kid I was heavily indoctrinated into appreciating good music, praise God. Now I’m getting to do the same thing with my kids every time we get in the truck. It’s the best.

“Why would you ever signup to go run that far? That sounds miserable.” I learned at a young age that my natural response to challenges was hesitation, cowardice, and fear. I don’t come by confidence easily, but I also don’t think I hate anything as much as I hate that knee-jerk coward response. Over time I figured out that the more often and the more violently I attacked that instinctual coward the quieter his voice got in my head. Not everyone can relate to this. That’s fine. But the answer to the question is that every now and then I have to go kill a coward. And the coward is me.

In ancient Athens, men were required to stay fit for combat until at least 60 years of age. This included physical training in the gymnasium. Even beyond that, Socrates called for older men to retain as much strength in their body as possible. "It is a disgrace to grow old through sheer carelessness before seeing what manner of man you may become by developing your bodily strength and beauty to their highest limit." — Xenophon, Memorabilia, 3.12

so true. The American Dream is for Americans.
Actually, I want Americans to live the American dream, and I don’t care if the other six billion people in the world ever get a shot at it.
