It cost £297m to produce the Lower Thames Crossing's 359,866 page long planning application.
That's more than it cost Norway to build the world's longest road tunnel.
The Department for Transport was meant to decide whether to approve it today. Instead, we got another delay.

The next roads programme needs to focus on maintenance and not building bigger roads.

Unfortunately so many people get their facts wrong about the £10bn+ Lower Thames Crossing, and do not know it has an extremely poor business case and won't fulfil its objectives

Not a helpful comparison. National Highways had to submit £10bn Lower Thames Crossing planning application twice due to incompetance. LTC is 23km of Smart Motorway standard road with 2 tunnels under Thames, not single carriageway single tunnel through rock in unpopulated Norway

Very welcome report from @TransportActio2 making the case for investing in public transport and active travel rather than new roads - the former provides much better value for money and wider benefits

It is time we shifted away from unaffordable and outdated road schemes and focused on maintenance, rail freight, public transport and active travel improvements.

We call upon @NorfolkCC to suspend this fruitless endeavor to reassess and explore alternative options. With a projected cost of £400 million, this road project continues it seems to lack the endorsement of Norwich City Council, the Council of the very City the road aims to benefit, underscoring the necessity for reevaluation.
The @NorwichCC latest report points out a lack of solid evidence suggesting that this road would significantly contribute to a sustainable and effective transportation strategy for the city. The expected improvements in air quality and traffic reduction seem minimal, and there is insufficient assurance that the negative impacts on local wildlife and landscapes can be effectively managed.
Additionally, the decision to eliminate a committee that included representatives from other councils raises concerns about the transparency and inclusiveness of transport-related decision-making processes affecting Norwich. We believe it is crucial to have an open platform where all stakeholders can voice their opinions and concerns.
As Norfolk County Council evaluates feedback from the recent consultation, we urge it to use this chance to engage constructively with environmental specialists, local residents, and all involved parties. Together, we can identify alternative solutions that better align with our collective goals for environmental sustainability and responsible development.
We respectfully ask the County Council to halt the NWL project and commit to a comprehensive review process that emphasises collaboration, openness, and environmental responsibility. Let us work collaboratively to determine a path that genuinely reflects the needs and priorities of Norfolk and its residents.

We’re still pushing on against the Norwich Western Link. Are you still with us?
We have sent in our response to Norfolk County Council’s Western Link planning application. In their application (to be determined by their own planning committee 🤨 ):
An area of ancient woodland has been missed by their surveyors 🪵
Mitigation proposals for impacts on the bat colonies are not sufficiently evidenced 🦇
It is unlikely they will secure a bat license from Natural England to go ahead with the road 🚫
Their impact assessment significantly underestimates ecological impacts including permanently damaging a floodplain 🌊
