Despite *waves hands* everything….football as a pure sport is as healthy as ever in Australia. Fandom, passion and participation. The structures around it however, from grassroots to the pro game, are on life support. It’s astonishing and fundamentally sad. But the game itself will be ok. Because of all of us.
Certainly hope the money from the sunscreen endorsement deal filtered down to the Tillies…… espn.com.au/soccer/story/_/i…
Oh boy…..
Socceroos and Matildas stars have sued Football Australia as part of a multi-million dollar dispute between the governing body and its national team players. @aap_sports

Interesting the comments and framing from PK about SFC youth and young players. The ages of that side that started were very lopsided. 4 over 30. 6 under 24. Only Toure in that 26-29 sweet spot. And a super young bench. That’s where they are lacking. And likely shines a light of how tricky recruitment currently is.

Yes. Yes. Yes.
The showdown to end all showdowns??? 👊
Volk says that he would retire – win or lose – if the #UFC were to set up a lightweight title bout with Justin Gaethje.

ok so....
volk just ended an undefeated run at 38
in round 2
at 4:54
and his next idea is go UP a weight class
against gaethje
for a lightweight title
as his last fight ever
two 38 year olds
and volk already saying retire win or lose
thats not a retirement tour
thats a guy picking the loudest possible exit
In the convo for all time great athletes, many mainstream Aussies won’t even think of him. But his achievements, his skill, his dedication, his character….all of it puts him in the very top tier. Alexander “the greatest” Volkanovsi. #AndStill

Immense win for Spurs full of character and the first real signs that the de Zerbi project is working. The final third is a big problem, but everything else was really good. Tonali/Fernandes is the midfield. And hopefully this can ignite Tel. The quality is there.
Spectacular TV.
'CLEARLY DIDN'T DO HIS HOMEWORK' 🤦 🤣
Charles Barkley just played probably the worst game of Inside the NBA's 'who he play for'.

No, I haven’t and wouldn’t step back!
This is the WNBL’s decision.
Very happy to still be writing for @ESPNAusNZ and for their wonderful support!
This would be very sad. The 2012 World Tracks were a spectacular event. Chris Hoy’s keirin win one of the greatest sporting performances I’ve seen.
A velodrome lying dormant beneath the retractable seats of John Cain Arena is causing headaches at Melbourne Park, with secret plans drawn up to remove it and industry leaders contemplating knocking down the stadium and rebuilding it.

A great pod this week.
New podcast. @JasonCadee5 and I reflect on Isaac Humphries’ career in the wake of his retirement, discuss the NBL’s decal issue, show love to some of #NBL27’s standout performers (Mennenga, Armstrong, Grida, Craig), react to Ben Simmons’ injury, and more.
