Olabisi Onabanjo University Students’ UNION

I understand the grievances surrounding this incident, but coming online to spread unverified information and mislead the public is unacceptable. I have been personally involved in this matter since yesterday when the incident occurred. I returned home past 12 a.m. this morning after ensuring that the individual involved was taken to the police station, where he was detained in my presence. I have continued to follow up on the matter since then. This afternoon, I was at the hospital alongside the parents and friends of the accident victims, as well as the parent of the individual involved in the accident. In my presence, arrangements were made to transport the victims to Lagos for further medical attention, with the DPO of Ago-Iwoye also present. As I write this, both victims are in Lagos receiving medical care, one at Gbobi and the other at a military hospital. The individual involved remains in police custody, and claims that he has been released are false. I have also personally verified since yesterday that the individual involved is a student. However, this does not diminish the seriousness of the incident or the need for justice to take its proper course. At this critical moment, our priority should be the recovery of the victims, the truth, and due process, not the spread of rumours or misleading narratives. May God grant the victims complete healing and give their families the strength to navigate this difficult period.
