True when I said it, true today.
“Canada is, and always has been, our country. And we want Canada to be a True North that is as strong and as free as it can be in every way that matters: the best country in the world. That’s why we’re here, that’s why we strive, that’s why we serve. Canada must reflect the true character of the Canadian people: honourable in our dealings, faithful to our commitments, loyal to our friends. By turns, a courageous warrior and a compassionate neighbour. It is our purpose that Canada must be great, it must be great for all Canadians, it must be a country of hope and an example to the world. And only when it is these things, when Canada is all that it can be, only then can we say that our work is done.”

41 years ago, Black July, an anti-Tamil pogrom, took the lives of thousands of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Today, we honour those who we lost, remember the stories of survivors, and recommit to advocating for peace, justice, and accountability for atrocities in Sri Lanka.

Tamil people, displaced the world over, are still waiting for justice.
My parents have told me the horrors of Black July - the trauma is passed down through generations and won't be forgotten.
Today, we remember those who lost their lives and continue our fight for justice.
⚫️ Remembering Black July 41 years on
Today marks 41 years since the horrors of the anti-Tamil pogrom of 1983, when thousands of Tamils were killed by Sinhala mobs backed by the then UNP government and state forces.
Armed with electoral rolls, Sinhala mobs targeted Tamil homes and businesses, looting and ransacking property. Driven from their homes, particularly in Colombo, over 3000 Tamils were massacred, whilst thousands more were effectively deported by the state to the North-East.

My memelord friends used to reliably share funny memes. These days I get mostly stuff like this. Let’s bend some curves so we can get back to funny memes.

on the night of the 31st of May 1981, the Jaffna Public Library was burned down. It was one of the largest libraries in Southasia, comprising 97,000+ volumes that included irreplaceable archival texts. The Sri Lankan police & government-backed groups were responsible.

Keeping the torch of remembrance alive in our youth.
Standing with the first Tamil-Canadians ever elected in Ontario's Legislative history, @LoganKanapathi & @TheThanigasalam, to remember the tens of thousands who perished in the #TamilGenocide.
15 years on, we are stepping up our work to preserve Tamil heritage, language, & culture.

Message from a friend: “Canada has heard rumors about innovation and is determined to will leave no stone unturned in deterring it”
Bad day for Entrepreneurship in Canada 🇨🇦👎. Capital gains tax rate is increasing from a 50% inclusion to 66%.
This increases the net capital gains tax rate from 27% to 36%...
Compared to the US which has a 20% capital gains tax rate (+ major incentives like QSBS)
In my conversations with Canadian entrepreneurs, it's clear: They're feeling less motivated to build businesses here when moving just a bit south could mean saving a lot more.

Toronto spent $1.2b on police & all they got was a message to leave their car keys at the front door to avoid a home invasion.
Better leave some cookies & milk too—these thugs refuse to acknowledge the gov has banned their firearms.

So u can imagine what happens to Tamils who protest in #srilanka then. Why this extreme intolerance of dissent at the same time as talking of ‘reconciliation’?
🚨 Sri Lankan government to lodge complaint over Tamil protest in London
Sri Lanka's Foreign Affairs Minister @alisabrypc said his government would "express its displeasure with the British government" against the protest held by Tamils in London, at a time when Sri Lanka was holding its 76th Independence Day Celebrations and Tamils worldwide marked it as a 'Black Day'.
