Emergency Appeal Launched:
Hurricane Melissa — the strongest storm in Jamaica’s history — has left a trail of devastation across the island. With winds up to 280 km/h and torrential rains, nearly 1.9 million people are affected. Homes destroyed, roads blocked, families displaced.
The Jamaica Red Cross, with support from the IFRC, is on the ground delivering emergency shelter, food, clean water, and cash assistance. But the needs are immense.
The IFRC has launched an emergency appeal for 19 million CHF to scale up life-saving aid and recovery efforts.
This is a critical moment. We must act swiftly to reach the most impacted communities.

Category 5 Melissa made landfall in southwestern Jamaica, near New Hope, as the third strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean.
The humanitarian impact of Melisa is expected to be extensive. Melissa may also bring life-threatening rains and winds, as well as flash flooding and landslides to Haiti, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, and Turks and Caicos. Red Cross local teams and the IFRC are working together to prepare for and respond to the humanitarian impact.
The @IFRC is also preparing to launch an emergency appeal very soon to support the people affected by #HurricaneMelissa.
Here is a glimpse of the ongoing response efforts across the Caribbean.👇

Good to see the Green Climate Fund (GCF) pushing efforts to support nations on the frontlines of the climate crisis with more early warnings - something the IFRC thinks crucial.
This project aims to strengthen the resilience of communities in seven countries by improving the production, dissemination and effective use of Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems.
The IFRC will continue its efforts as a partner in the Early Warnings for All initiative (EW4All), which aims to ensure everyone on Earth is protected by early-warning systems by 2027. greenclimate.fund/news/gcf-a…

🚨 The Mediterranean remains one of the deadliest migration routes. This year alone, at least 115 children have died trying to reach safety.
No one should have to risk their life in search of protection. That’s why @IFRC and @SOSMedIntl remain committed to rescue efforts aboard the #OceanViking—ensuring that those in distress receive the lifesaving care they need.

With four ambulances on their way from the @ifrc’s logistics and fleet hub, vital support is heading to #Syria to strengthen the @SYRedCrescent's efforts in addressing escalating humanitarian needs.
Since late November 2024, intensified hostilities have caused mass displacement, destroyed infrastructure, and left millions without basic services.
In response, the IFRC has launched a CHF 130 million emergency appeal to support the Syrian Arab Red Crescent in assisting 5 million people.
The needs are still immense.

Syria is experiencing one of the most serious and complex humanitarian crises in the world and we expect needs to continue and grow.
More than 13 years of hostilities has seen catastrophic damage to lives, homes, livelihoods and critical services.
No matter what, teams from @SYRedCrescent continue to provide care and assistance to those in need. Supported by our @IFRC network teams, they are distributing critical aid, including food and relief items.
To further expand these efforts, the IFRC has launched an emergency appeal to help the @SYRedCrescent deliver life-saving aid and protection services to 5 million people across Syria.
