Huntington Beach’s book banning city council was finally forced to dismantle their restricted youth area in the public library, thanks to community advocacy and California law. 📚📚📚📚📚
A great day in court! We prevailed on all issues. The judge ruled against the city on everything! HB’s attempt to ban books in our public library has been thwarted.📚📚📚
When our MAGA city council restricts our freedom to read freely, we fight back in court and at the ballot box!
As of this week, these books are still restricted from teens and others at our public library by our city—even though HB citizens voted decisively in June to stop censorship.Plus the new California law prevents these restrictions. 😡
The city has sponsored and endorsed this Christian Nationalist group to hold classes rent-free in our public library. That’s a violation of the separation of church and state. 😡
Even after HB voters delivered an electoral mandate against censorship, HB continues to make many books inaccessible to patrons. One is an adult book, Call Me By Your Name, which was made into an Academy Award-winning movie. This violates California's new Freedom to Read law.
Complete sour grapes coming from the book censors! HB voters decisively voted to protect our freedom to read but they won’t stop. This message was posted by the wife of former mayor Tony Strickland. He’s now in the CA state senate.
Will the City Council still install its MAGA plaque at our public library when the vast majority of residents don’t want such a political, polarizing sign on a public building?
A clear and decisive win for Measures A and B! Voters don’t want a book review board or privatization. Our library is fine the way it is!
Today is the last day to vote YES on A and B to keep our public library operating the way it’s been operating since its founding in 1909–free from politicians and profiteers!
Will Chad and his moral police allow this picture book to stay in children’s section? Keep prudes and politicians out of our library. Vote Yes and Yes by Tuesday. 🗳️🇺🇸
