260720 - STATEMENT REGARDING HARASSMENT AND DISCOURSE Dear EVOL, We rarely make personal statements because we want to keep this account focused on XLOV. However, recent events have reached a point where we feel it's important to address them. This situation has not only affected XLOVGLOBAL, but also other XLOV fanbases. Over the past two days, one individual has repeatedly targeted multiple fanbases after disagreeing with our decision not to promote the current Top100 Fanvote in which Hyun is nominated. Disagreeing with our decisions is completely acceptable. Harassing the people behind the accounts is not. Throughout these conversations, we repeatedly asked this person to adjust their tone and communicate respectfully so that we could solve the issue in a calm, quick manner. Instead of acknowledging those requests, we were met with responses such as "I don't talk aggressively" and "I'm not apologising." When multiple fanbases have interpreted and told you that your way of communicating is coming off disrespectful, it may be worth taking a step back and reflecting on why those concerns are being raised instead of dismissing them. We appreciate everyone's input and ideas on how XLOVGLOBAL can improve. We listen to our community, and we are always open to adding new ideas and projects to our to-do list whenever they are realistic and something we can manage. Constructive feedback is one of the ways we continue to grow as a fanbase. However, what we have experienced over the past two days was not constructive criticism. It was repeated hostility, continued arguments after our decisions had already been explained, and personal attacks directed at volunteers across several fanbases. We want to remind everyone that there are real people behind these accounts. We have jobs, studies, families, friends, and responsibilities outside of XLOV. Everything we do for this fandom is voluntary. We choose how we spend our time, which projects we focus on, and what we are realistically able to support. In this case, we decided that the current Top100 Fanvote would not be one of our priorities as an unofficial event. We did, however, agree in part to promote for Hyun. This was explained rationally to this person, however we have been faced with much arguing in face of our calm responses at the beginning. People are free to disagree with our decisions and we encourage these opinions to be shared. They are not, however, entitled to demand our time, repeatedly argue with our volunteers, or disrespect them because they did not receive the answer they wanted. Additionally, we have been asked to comment on gender centric discourse within the fandom. As a fanbase, we are not XLOV's voice. We will never speak for their identities and how and where they feel comfortable as it is not our place to do so. EVOL are entitled to their own opinions and we encourage people to form their own perspectives without harassing and attacking others. The respect we have for our fellow fanbases, especially @SupportXLOV and @phevolution_ , runs incredibly deep. We have seen firsthand how much time, effort, and dedication goes into running these accounts. Behind every update, voting reminder, project, or event are volunteers giving up their own free time simply because they love XLOV and want to help the fandom grow. SupportXLOV and EVOLution PH have continuously supported both XLOV and the wider EVOL community in countless ways. Whether it is organising projects, sharing information, encouraging voting, or simply being there when help is needed, they have become an important part of this fandom. Seeing people who dedicate so much of themselves to supporting XLOV being met with disrespect is genuinely disappointing. No fanbase deserves to be spoken to in that way simply because they made a decision someone disagrees with. We will always stand by fellow fanbases that work hard for XLOV, and we will not stay silent when volunteers who have done nothing but give their time and energy to this community are treated unfairly. Lastly, if there are issues with how our fanbases run or in their organisation skills and voting tactics, we encourage EVOL to come to us with suggestions and ideas so we can work together and create the best fandom we can for XLOV. We are always willing to hear people out, but being accused of bullying and harrassed for hours on end due to our responses will not help us or you in finding solutions. As the global base with a large platform, bullying has never been our intention. We do not encourage anyone to seek out this person or attack them for their actions. As a fanbase, we will take measures such as removing users from our server and choosing to not reply to harrassing messages for the security of our own moderators and admins, but also to give all parties of situations the space to learn and reflect. We are always seeking ways to be better and will never intentionally harm the EVOL who look up to us. We apologise deeply if this has been the effect caused by the preventative measures taken in the last 2 days. We also encourage those with strong passions for voting to create their own fanbases if they feel they can aid us through professional collaborations. Running a fanbase is much more than making posts. It means organizing projects, communicating with other fanbases, answering messages, handling issues behind the scenes, and making difficult decisions that not everyone will agree with. It is easy to criticize that work from the outside, but much harder to be the person doing it. We support XLOV because we love them, but we also understand the importance of balancing that passion with everything else life brings. We hope others can extend the same understanding to the people who dedicate their own free time to this community. If our priorities or the way we choose to run XLOVGLOBAL do not align with your expectations, you are always welcome to build a space that reflects your own vision instead. Before we end this statement, we would like to make one thing clear. We do not enjoy making posts like this, nor do we want to bring even more drama into a fandom space that is already under enough stress for many different reasons. Our goal has always been to keep this account focused on supporting XLOV and creating a positive environment for EVOL. However, this is one of the few situations where all of us agreed that staying silent would send the wrong message. We truly hope this is where the matter ends and that everyone can move forward with a little more understanding for the people who dedicate their free time to this community and how to approach situations like this in the future.
