Devon MP ( Caroline Voaden ) urges Prime Minister to act on pelvic mesh 'scandal’
She demanded to know when the
government would respond to the Hughes Report, which was published in 2024 and set out options for providing #redress for those harmed by pelvic #mesh and the medicine valproate.

Just how much careful consideration does mesh need? It’s just had 8 years of it !
🚨Theres the IMMDS report AND the Hughes Report -
no one can spell this out any louder ….
🚨mesh was a life altering catastrophe with NO back up plan for the tens of thousands of failures
🚨🚨🚨theres now a mesh removal crisis !

Second Mesh Scandal
🚨we need a public inquiry into why no one was trained to remove mesh devices in preparedness for surgical failure - there was nothing
They knew the plastic mesh material was going to a permanent implant - this was never properly explained in consultation - and being a permanent implant with associated dangers these devices were shoved into the pelvis with a ‘blind’ surgical procedure and no post op scans
🚨within 2 weeks of implantation the plastic would have been fusing to internal structures and already too late to remove easily
Misplacement of these devices did occurr - which meant the permanent plastic became ‘stuck’ to internal structures that it shouldn’t have and they had no skills to remove it promptly
These devices have deteriorated internally now over decades and women are very sick but continue to be gaslighted even after the Cumberlege Review !
This appalling situation is now deserving of a public inquiry

The campaigners have said it all, I have been campaigning for 17 years - but very happy to say it all again.
In the meantime the further the delays go on there are more and more studies being released confirming the long term health effects of temaining stuck mesh - cell disregulation, toxicity, fast degrading effects and plastic migration into surrounding organs and tissues - proof that the sales pitch ‘mesh is inert’ was gravely misleading to patients from the outset
the mesh situation now is revealing an even starker reality with deeply troubling long term effects

🚨The media has gone quiet. The mesh crisis has not.
🚨Six years after First Do No Harm, women are still being discharged after failed partial removals — leftover fragments left to degrade, cut edges slicing into muscle, nerve and organ.
🚨Across England the same sentence keeps being said: “No one will touch me.”
Where is the #media outrage? #journalists #mesh #publicinquiry
🔷In the 27 November 2018 IMMDS Review oral hearing (Ms Sohier Elneil, urogynecologist), it was stated that many consultants who have been in post over the preceding decade had lost traditional/master surgical skills (such as colposuspension and other non-mesh techniques), while a “five-year consultant group” had never learned them and would therefore have to rely on others.

🔷I raised this skills gap with Baroness Cumberlege. I am quoted in the 2020 report itself:
🔹NICE said mesh should be last resort, yet gynaecologists had already been deskilled in the alternatives.
🔹How can something be last resort when the other options have been allowed to disappear?
🔷RCOG still states it plainly: this area of practice (mesh removals) is new, there are no formal training programmes worldwide including the UK, and there are significant public safety concerns about the safety of mesh removal surgery.
🔷That is not history. That is the Second Mesh Scandal unfolding now.

The bare facts were laid out in the IMMDS and Hughes Report 8 years ago! Something is amiss! Accountability! Inaction risks further harm. Women need help now. Lifetime knowledgeable skilled specialized care, financial aid for their injuries and loss of income. #PayUp

KICKED TO THE CURB 📷📷
When an institutional system has zero fallback protocols for complex complications, the immediate response defaults to deflection.
Being shuttled from one door to another isn't a care plan—it is a dead end. The global community is left to navigate the aftermath entirely on their own.

ALT Because permanent implants were fast-tracked without comprehensive safety data, no one in the general medical community knew how to address the unique ways synthetic materials degrade in the body. There was no Plan B. When women presented with complex, multi-system issues, the standard response was a dismissive "It's not the m.e.s.h.," followed by a relentless cycle of specialist referrals. Shuttled from door to door, patients were kicked to the curb time and time again while their health continued to spiral. Accountability requires transparency, not systemic denial.

No response from the government is cruel to the patients catastrophically harmed by #pelvicmesh - it literally rubs salt in the wounds - not only is their physical health shattered and declining their mental health is in decline as a knock-on effect of living with daily pain & recurring sepsis,
It is known and peer reviewed that bladder infections impact mental health
•Immune Inflammation (IL-6): Research shows that the body's immune response to an infection releases inflammatory proteins—such as interleukin-6 (IL-6)—that can affect brain structure and neurotransmitter function.
•Anxiety and Depression: Acute or chronic, recurrent UTIs are linked to increased emotional distress, panic-like feelings, tearfulness, irritability, and depressive symptoms
Mesh injured women are still being gaslighted and there is no interconnected long term care and I am still reading suicidal messages
🚨💔This is a National scandal where some are still trying to brush this under the carpet
Thank you @PSCommissioner @CarolineVoaden @anna4fes @SharonHodgsonMP for your continued compassion

🚨Second mesh scandal
No one was trained to remove it - and 6 years after the IMMDS Review still no one is trained!
According to statements from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), pelvic mesh removal surgery is an entirely new area of clinical practice, meaning there are still no formal
, standard global training programmes or fellowships specifically dedicated to extracting eroded pelvic mesh

These testimonies matter because the harm is lifelong and the pattern of inadequate consent downplayed risks, dismissal of patients and GPs was repeated across thousands of women
The #IMMDS review proved avoidable harm but had limited powers there should have been an immediate public inquiry
The years that are passing since that review with 0 being done is an insult to thousands of injured women

🚨Almost 8 years ago the IMMDS team interviewed patients and professionals to find out what went wrong with pelvic mesh - women are rarely interviewed now but that does not mean they feel fine - they’re just ignored -
🔹Janis Nicholson’s 2018 IMMDS personal testimony is a clear record of how mesh-injured women were failed.
🔹She was offered only mesh after severe stress incontinence, with no mention of alternatives, then recruited into the SIMS trial.
🔹Risks were described as minimal by an experienced surgeon, a few extra days of pain, possible slight leakage, low infection risk.
🔹This is the same script thousands of women were given to entice them into having the latest “minimally invasive” (not) procedure
🔹Immediately after surgery she had no feeling in her legs and collapsed. Excruciating right-leg pain was treated as “muscle pain.” Her GP said it was nerve damage. The surgeon dismissed the GP and sent her for spinal investigations instead.
🚨oh yes we know that gaslighting so well!
🔹Neurophysiology later confirmed damage to three nerves in one leg.
🔹By the time she gave evidence she had lived with constant pain for four and a half years, was on high-dose gabapentin just to function, could not work full-time, and had developed secondary hip problems from altered gait.
🔹She still wanted the mesh removed but was told few surgeons could do it and the operation itself risked further nerve injury. She felt she was “lucky” her mesh had not yet eroded into organs.
These testimonies matter because the harm is lifelong and the pattern of inadequate consent downplayed risks, dismissal of patients and GPs was repeated across thousands of women.
