Jude Farhat’s path to medical school was anything but traditional. 💙 Growing up in South Sacramento as the daughter of Syrian immigrants, Farhat faced challenges that strengthened her resilience and determination to pursue medicine and serve communities that often feel overlooked. From community college to UC Davis, she gained clinical experience, including volunteering at a student-run clinic serving uninsured patients, reinforcing her desire to help people feel seen and understood. That mission led Farhat to Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, where receiving the Sutter Health CDU Scholarship helped make her dream possible. “Through this scholarship, I can achieve my goal of becoming an outstanding physician and medical researcher who amplifies marginalized voices and advocates for underserved communities,” Farhat said. Physician training doesn’t stop at the bedside. Residents also grow by teaching, leading and mentoring others. 💙 Sutter Health brought that approach to this year’s Latino Medical Student Association National Conference, where medical students, pre-med students, residents and healthcare leaders from across the country came together to explore how culture, language and lived experience can inform patient care. For Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento resident Dr. Adriana Mora, the experience was especially meaningful. She first attended the conference as a pre-med student, where seeing Latino physicians who looked like her helped make a career in medicine feel possible. This year, she returned hoping to offer students that same sense of inspiration. By supporting opportunities like these, Sutter is helping expand pathways for physician education and prepare more doctors to care for communities across Northern California. A new chapter for primary care in Vallejo. 💙 Sutter Health recently marked the expansion of the Vallejo Primary Care Center with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. The celebration was especially meaningful for Vallejo Vice Mayor JR Matulac, who has visited this location for more than a decade to see his Sutter Medical Group primary care physician, Dr. Sean Hennessey. Matulac shared how Dr. Hennessey’s care and guidance have helped him manage his health over the years. It was a powerful reminder of what primary care is all about: helping patients stay well and building lasting relationships rooted in trust. Thank you to the Vallejo Primary Care Center team and everyone who helped bring this expanded space to life! 🎉 #TeamSutter #SutterProud

A new milestone is bringing leading-edge cancer research closer to home for East Bay patients. 💙 Sutter East Bay Medical Group physicians have enrolled the first patient in the Sutter Health system in a cellular therapy clinical trial at Sutter’s Alta Bates Summit Medical Center Herrick Campus. The trial is studying an investigational off-the-shelf CAR T cell therapy for patients with large B cell lymphoma who are at high risk of relapse. As the only center in the East Bay offering this type of cellular therapy, Sutter is giving eligible patients access to investigational treatment closer to home while allowing them to remain with the oncology team they already know and trust. A new national distinction for heart care at Sutter. ❤️ Sutter’s CPMC has earned Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification from The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association, the highest level of cardiac recognition offered by the organizations. CPMC is now one of only four hospitals in Northern California and 29 nationwide to achieve the distinction. For patients, the recognition reflects a highly coordinated approach to heart and vascular care, connecting prevention, advanced procedures, cardiac rehabilitation and ongoing disease management across every stage of the care journey. CPMC joins Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento and Mills-Peninsula Medical Center in earning this prestigious certification, further reflecting the strength of cardiovascular care across Sutter’s connected network. Palliative care is about helping people live as well as possible for as long as possible, with care centered on what matters most to them. 💙 For Craig Whitley, who lived with cystic fibrosis, that meant staying independent, spending time with loved ones and continuing to garden and cook. Through Sutter Health’s Palliative Care and Support Services, Craig worked with an interdisciplinary team from Sutter East Bay Medical Group that helped manage his anxiety and breathlessness while supporting his goals and wishes for his care. “He wanted to be able to cook and garden,” said his husband, David. “The care he received gave him several more months to enjoy the things he loved.” Palliative care couldn’t change the course of Craig’s illness, but it gave him greater comfort and control while creating more time and space for the people and experiences that mattered most.
