What if the biggest myth about Al is that we have no choice but to embrace it? For over a decade, Silicon Valley has sold us the idea that technological change is inevitable. And fear of being left behind has become its most powerful marketing tool. At SYNAPSE 2026, @_KarenHao challenged this narrative, exposing how the fear of missing out drives adoption, and ultimately, profits. #OriginalThinking #SYNAPSE #ai #marketingtactics #techfuture

The race to build AI is also a gamble with pout future. Who gets to accept that risk on our behalf? At SYNAPSE, AI pioneer Stuart Russell had already made the case for slowing down. His warning: companies are pouring extraordinary resources into a technology whose risks, by their own leaders' estimates, could include human extinction. #OriginalThinking #SYNAPSE #ai #humanextinction #anthropic

AI can learn from a maestro. But can it share the bonf between a guru and a disciple? When Shoma Chaudhary asks what sets him apart from AI, Shankar Mahadevan recalls his guru T.R. Balamani's scolding, the love it carried, and his certainty that he was her favourite student. #OriginalThinking #SYNAPSE #ai #humans #music #relationship

An apology makes headlines. Keeping children safe takes more. In 2024, Mark Zuckerberg apologised to families of children harmed online. In 2026, Meta agreed to billions in settlements over claims its platforms harmed children. Yet September reporting by WIRED and the Tech Transparency Project documented hundreds of paid ads containing child sexual abuse imagery, some using AI-manipulated photographs of real children. Meta says the identified ads were removed. Researchers documented more appearing after earlier takedowns. What should accountability look like when apologies, promises and settlements still leave children at risk? #OriginalThinking #SYNAPSE #ai #meta #childsafety

Why are we obsessed with building robots when we have a billion-plus human minds ready to change the world? Rita Banerji reminds us that our greatest asset for conservation isn't AI, it's the untapped potential and energy of your youth. Let's invest in people, not just code. You unlock your phone with your face. You walk past cameras every day. You tap your metro card. You drive through toll booths. You enter airports. You join a protest. Every interaction leaves behind a trail. Surveillance isn't new. But AI is changing what can be done with the data that's collected. Supporters argue it makes societies safer. Critics ask what safeguards should exist to prevent misuse. So here's the question: How much surveillance is too much surveillance? #OriginalThinking #SYNAPSE #ai #surveillance #safety #tech

Every AI answer begins with work most of us will never see. Before a model can recognise violence, hate, abuse, or even disease, someone has to spend hours looking at it first. They label it, describe it, and categorise it so the AI can learn. For many data workers, that means repeated exposure to graphic and disturbing content for little pay, little protection, and often lasting psychological harm. The AI revolution isn't powered by machines alone. It's powered by people whose stories rarely make the headlines. AI data workers deserve better. Thousands of Indians are already helping train Al. Some label images. Some rank chatbot responses. Some correct Al's mistakes. And now, others are teaching robots how to fold clothes, wash utensils, sort objects, and even assist on construction sites by showing them how humans do these tasks. Al still has a long way to go before it can truly match human intelligence. It learns from us because it still depends on us. But every lesson we teach raises another question: Are we only building better tools... or are we quietly teaching machines to do more and more of what makes us indispensable? The technology itself isn't the problem. What we choose to automate and what we choose to preserve as deeply human-might be one of the biggest decisions of our time. #OriginalThinking #SYNAPSE #ai #TechEthics #India

We often hear people talk about the future as if it's already decided. And more often than not, those predictions come from the people building the technology itself. Of course, their perspective matters. They're creating the tools that could shape tomorrow. But no prediction becomes reality on its own. It still depends on the choices we make, the technologies we adopt, the policies we support, and the futures we decide are worth building. Maybe that's why every confident prediction deserves more than applause. It deserves questions. What assumptions is this prediction built on? Who benefits if enough people believe it? and what choices is it asking us to make today? Because the future isn't something we simply inherit. It's something we participate in creating. #OriginalThinking #SYNAPSE #predictions #power #ai

We like to think reality is something we observe. But most of the time, it's something we negotiate. A raised eyebrow. An awkward silence. A friend telling you you're wrong. A colleague challenging your idea. These tiny moments constantly recalibrate our understanding of the world-and of ourselves. If Al becomes the voice we interact with most, what happens when it stops challenging us and starts validating us instead? Daniel Barcay explains why the biggest risk of Al may not be misinformation. It may be the slow erosion of reality itself. #OriginalThinking #SYNAPSE #ai #chatbot

You don't expect someone at the helm of one of the world's most influential Al companies to sound this frustrated. Alex Karp believes businesses are losing trust in Al companies, proprietary data is at risk, and frontier models have been "completely, irresponsibly oversold." Whether you agree with him or not, it's hard to ignore the conviction behind his words. If people shaping the future of Al are this concerned about where it's heading... Maybe we should be paying closer attention. #OriginalThinking #ai #palantir #buzzingnow #SYNAPSE

Months before Ronny Chieng's viral Harvard speech questioning what Al can and cannot replace, speakers at Synapse were exploring a similar idea from a creative lens. As Al becomes increasingly capable, what remains uniquely human? Is talent enough? Is it passion? Creativity? Originality? Hear Sonu Nigam share why he believes Al is not a threat! #OriginalThinking #SYNAPSE #SonuNigam #Bollywood #ai

You'd expect a tech founder, AI researcher, or billionaire CEO to lecture Harvard graduates about the future of AI. Instead, it was a comedian telling them: "F** AI." And somehow, it was one of the most thoughtful takes on technology. Ronny Chieng wasn't arguing against scientific breakthroughs, medical research, climate solutions, or the kind of AI that helps humans solve genuinely hard problems. He was poking fun at something else: Our growing habit of outsourcing thinking. The calculators that became spellcheck. The spellcheck that became autocomplete. The autocomplete that became "write the whole thing for me." His argument wasn't that AI makes people stupid. It's that people are increasingly willing to stop exercising the muscles that make them smart. And that's a much harder problem to solve. #OriginalThinking #SYNAPSE #ai #ronnychieng #harvard

The cloud has never been heavier. Behind every Al model is a rapidly growing network of data centres, power infrastructure, cooling systems, and resource extraction on a scale most people never see. According to journalist Karen Hao, the amount of money being poured into Al infrastructure today exceeds some of the most ambitious projects in modern history. The race for Al isn't just happening on our screens. It's happening in power grids, water systems, and construction sites across the world. Watch her full session on our website or You Tube channel. The AI boom is the biggest technology story of our generation. New models every few months. Smarter tools. Faster answers. But while the tech keeps accelerating, the planet is footing the bill. And it starts with the smallest things. Asking AI to write an email. Generate an image. Summarise a document. Every single one of those prompts runs through a data center — a physical building that drinks water, burns fossil fuels, pollutes the air and never, ever turns off. Globally, data centers already consume as much water daily as entire towns. In 2024 alone, they produced 182 million tonnes of CO2. The air pollutants they release — volatile organic compounds, NOx, fine particulate matter — don't stay local. They travel. They settle. Into lungs, into bloodstreams, into communities that never asked for any of this. Now the build-out is coming to India. Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad — cities already in water crisis — are where server farms are being planted. India holds 18% of the world's population but just 4% of its freshwater. Data center water consumption here is projected to more than double by 2030. There is no mandatory environmental regulation for any of it. Who should be held responsible — the companies building this, or the governments letting them or us? #OriginalThinking #SYNAPSE #ai #watercrisis #airpollution

India may be sitting on nearly $9 trillion of locked capital. Real estate that can't easily be leveraged. Gold that mostly sits in lockers. Millions of NRIs who want access to Indian markets but face layers of friction. At SYNAPSE, Siddharth Shetty talked about the next wave of financial innovation isn't about creating new wealth but about unlocking the wealth that already exists. If even a fraction of these assets become digitally accessible, the impact could be measured not in millions but in trillions. #OriginalThinking #SYNAPSE #finance #gold #realestate
