Today I woke up with 12 years clean and sober. 1️⃣2️⃣
I’m gonna sit with that for a minute. 12. YEARS. I’m at the point now where I’ve been clean longer than I was actively using.
What I’ve learned is that addiction is a disease, and drugs and alcohol were my coping skills — they were not “the problem”.
Even though I haven’t been in active addiction for 12 years, I also haven’t been in active recovery.. which can make things very miserable and challenging.
Life shows up. If you’ve been on spaces with me, I have been saying “life is life’ing” A LOT lately. 2025 was hard. The last 6 months was hard. Probably the most struggle I’ve experienced in a LONG time.
But I chose to redirect my focus, get back into recovery, go to some 12-step meetings (the program is not the fellowship and I have to remember that), and try to find some peace.
I have chosen, every day, not to use any substances for a coping skill or to escape. And even though it has not been pretty, I’m pretty damn proud of myself.
If you’re struggling, reach out. I’m happy to chat, provide resources, talk life, talk recovery, whatever. You matter, you are strong and you are capable.
