#Repost @dstinc1913 ・・・ It is with deep sorrow that Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. shares the passing of our beloved 20th National President, Dr. Bertha Maxwell Roddey. Soror Roddey made her peaceful transition at the age of 93 at her home in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Black History Month began in 1926 when Carter G. Woodson & the Association for the Study of Negro Life & History declared the second week of February "Negro History Week." After Congress passed Public Law, February became "National Black History Month" in 1986. #BlackHistoryMonth

Alternative to cooking, invite sorors to dinner or try an international cuisine and chat and chew! #ERDST #ERLoveMySisterWeek

Imani is the seventh and last principle of Kwanzaa and it means faith. Our faith is in our community leaders, teachers, and our loved ones, both past and present. Light the last candle, the green candle. Now gather for Karamu or feast.

Kumbaa means creativity and it's the sixth principle of Kwanzaa. Use your individual creativity to improve and bring beauty to your community. Think about music, art, dance, and/or literature. What can you contibute?

Nia, or purpose, is our focus on the fifth day of Kwanzaa. Be purposeful...set personal goals as well as goals that can benefit the larger community.

On this, the third day of Kwanzaa, our focus is Ujima. This is the collective responsibility for achievement and setbacks in our community. Let’s build up one another and work together to solve problems. Light the green candle closest to the black candle.

Our focus for the second day of Kwanzaa is kujichagulia which means self-determination. It's time to build yourselves as individuals and as a community. Strive to be all that you ought to be! Light the red candle closest to the black candle.

Today is the first day of Kwanzaa. We focus on umoja or unity. Let's strive for unity in our families, our communities, our race and in our nation. Light the center black candle on your kinara (candleholder).

Wishing you a bountiful and blessed holiday as you spend time with friends and family.
