I was today years old when I learned this was a thing and now I have an excuse to read the whole series every December.
Not that I needed one. 📚

The leaves are changing in the Northern Hemisphere and the days are getting shorter. That means the TDIR Readathon/Midwinter is getting closer!
Question: Which character in the sequence would you love to have coffee/tea with?

Autumn Equinox & the question is...do you read "The Dark is Rising" series now so you can read "The Grey King" in time for Halloween...or wait for the readathon?

MY BOOK ‘HOLY GRAIL’ ❤️
With enormous thanks to Les Ashton of Ashton Rare Books, after many years of searching I have finally secured a first edition/first printing of Susan Cooper’s extraordinary landmark novel THE DARK IS RISING (1973).
Even better, it’s a signed presentation/association copy, given by the author to fellow children’s author Jill Paton-Walsh.
I am overjoyed! 😊
Welcome to the 2025 Readathon! Some of you are well into Midwinter's Eve depending on your time zone.
I hope everyone enjoys the decades-old tradition of reading The Dark Is Rising. Post your thoughts!

Midwinter's Eve and the start of another reading of The Dark Is Rising is fast approaching! In my northern clime, we have the snow, just missing the rooks. I hope your Christmas/holiday preparations are going well and you are staying healthy! Happy Reading!
It would be remiss not to mention that 2025 was the 50th anniversary of award-winning The Grey King. Not only did it win the Newbery Medal but also the inaugural English-language Tir na n-Og Award for children's literature with an authentic Welsh background.

Hello friends, old and new! It's getting close to that time of year - Readathon time! (You thought I was going to say Christmas, didn't you?)
Speaking of Christmas, support authors this Black Friday weekend and get that book lover on your list something great!

Going to re-read "The Dark Is Rising" by Susan Cooper.
A 'childrens books' you still read after 50 years
When the Dark comes rising, six shall turn it back;
Three from the circle, three from the track;
Wood, bronze, iron; water, fire, stone;
Five will return, and one go alone.
The air is getting colder. The days are getting shorter. That can only mean it's getting closer to reading The Dark Is Rising again!
