Rain or shine, we’re out every weekend beautifying San Jose and creating a cleaner, safer city! This morning, we joined @TFHECommunity, @PeterOrtizD5, @mysjcccs, Goodwill of Silicon Valley, @sjparksandrec, and BeautifySJ to pick up litter along Story Road and help neighbors throw out their unwanted junk in our dumpsters. Thanks to all the volunteers made it out despite the rainy weather to beautify our city! Join us at the next clean-up here: bit.ly/cleansj

some important reminders as #BlackHistoryMonth kicks off tomorrow✌️
ALT Image Description: A collection of illustrated pink, red, and green text and image on a light pink background. The title reads in bubbly hand-lettered type, “Things to do this Black history month,” and is continued at the bottom of the image reading, “...and keep doing the other 11 months of the year!!!” Below it reads the following points: celebrate all Black history (not just trauma), support Black-owned businesses and creators, learn from (and pay!) Black anti-racist educators, amplify and listen to Black voices, donate money/time/resources to Black organizations, and make actionable goals to support Black liberation (ones that the Black community asks for!). Small illustrations show a stack of books, a shopping bag with small products, a chalkboard with an apple, a Black woman with a microphone, a dollar and a clock, and a pencil writing. Below reads the artist credit in hand-lettered type, @CourtneyAhnDesign.

During slavery, the most forbidden weapon for slaves was knowledge. Slave masters understood that their social control of slaves couldn’t be based solely on physical coercion. Knowledge was power.
They were legally allowed in 1863 and only the Bible. #BlackHistoryMonth

As you honor my father today, please remember and honor my mother, as well.
She was the architect of the King Legacy and founder of @TheKingCenter, which she founded two months after Daddy was assassinated.

Educators stepped up during this pandemic.
You adapted lessons and counseled students who were filled with anxiety.
Because of you, I have never been more proud to be an educator.
