Important thread about the importance of maintaining professional ethics & why it matters for pastors/leaders who hold influential positions within dominations & have journalistic connections.
This is exactly the current problem with @edstetzer, @jamesmacdonald, & @CTmagazine

Impeach Hegseth and Blanche. The Pentagon and DOJ are too important to be left in their hands. And it will be important to bar them from federal service forever.
A US military source says: "Hegseth's days are numbered". There are differing views on why - some believe he will face inevitable impeachment by the Democrats, others believe Trump will sack him as the fall guy for the disastrous Iran war.
Either way, he has already alienated significant parts of the US military.
One senior military officer, not authorised to speak on the record, tells @thetimes: "Personally, after decades of service and five combat deployments I’m just tired of being called ‘woke’ by a secretary who seems to spend more time worrying about NCO business than actually making serious policy decisions."

I have problems with some of Talarico's theology. I'm sure Hamilton and I disagree somewhere too.
But evangelicals have lost any right to decide who is not a "real Christian." They have promoted racists, heretics, and abusers. They cannot rightly discern orthopraxy OR orthodoxy.

Me: I'm sick of seeing my faith weaponized for hate so I voted blue for the least of these.
MAGA Christians: Enjoy hell, you stupid b*tch. You're no Christian, you apostate c*nt. You're the hateful one & your spouse is an abomination.
Thank you MAGA for proving my entire point

The story of the “Widows Mite” is about this very thing. Jesus wasn’t praising the widow’s generosity, he was condemning a system that would take her last two pennies.
I hope the folks at Lakepointe know they shouldn’t feel guilty for not wanting to sell their home or liquidate their savings, investments, or other valuable assets to fund Josh Howerton’s Into the Breach campaign.
You shouldn’t have to justify keeping your home by turning it into a ministry opportunity. Making people feel guilty for not surrendering their personal assets is manipulation, not discipleship.

BREAKING: Reuters reports the Trump White House is mapping out a path to govern without Congress if Democrats win on Tuesday.
Don’t tell me Trump isn’t fascist ever again!

What I’m about to write is true and very funny. A few years ago; the company that makes Cards Against Humanity bought a piece of land in Texas which sits on the space X campus. On that land they are building a statue explicitly to annoy Elon Musk. 🧵

It doesn’t take a PhD in biblical hermeneutics to understand that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
But it takes some biblical gymnastics to argue that Christian ends excuse the absence of fruit.

I've been thinking about why the Samuel Sey situation is so infuriating to me, and I realize it's because someone at my parish is going through almost the exact same thing. Except my friend and her husband don't have well-connected, influential right-wing friends to advocate for them.
A woman at my parish has a husband who is currently being detained by ICE. He entered this country legally on a visa. He married an American citizen, and through their marriage, they applied for permanent residency through the family reunification process. While his application is pending, he has been granted employment authorization, allowing him to work legally in the United States.
Last week, he was at a job site with several other immigrants. I don't know the immigration status of everyone who was there, but I do know his circumstances. ICE picked them all up. He has now been detained for over a week, and his wife is having to spend thousands of dollars trying to secure his release on bond.
Now, I've seen people explaining away Samuel Sey's situation by claiming there was a discrepancy with his paperwork. Well, here's what I know about the situation at my parish: There is no paperwork discrepancy. He has his paperwork. His paperwork was completed accurately. He was picked up simply for being present at a job site with other immigrants. As far as I know, there was nothing illegal happening. He was simply there, doing his job while having an accent and suspicious skin color.
This is a man who entered the country legally, followed the immigration process, obtained authorization to work, and, to my knowledge, has committed no crime. Yet, he is sitting in detention, separated from his wife, being treated like a criminal for doing nothing more than showing up to work.
And this is why the Samuel Sey situation makes me so angry.
We are now being lectured about empathy by people who have spent years defending, promoting, and justifying the very system that is inflicting this trauma on families like the one in my parish. Suddenly, when someone they know and care about is caught up in that system, they recognize the cruelty.
You would think this was the first good Christian man this has ever happened to.
The lady from my parish, like so many others, doesn't have an influential network of conservative Christians demanding compassion on her husband's behalf.
And watching people who helped normalize this cruelty chastise everyone else for failing to show empathy when it finally reaches someone in their own circle is absolutely maddening.

extending mercy to a conservative immigrant christian who has been stripped from his family but not to the millions of other immigrants is essentially what jesus was getting at in the good samaritan parable

Nancy Pelosi, who is regularly hammered for her perceived insider trading, has made 213 total trades since 2014. Trump exceeded that number in a single day, which just happened to precede his own tariffs announcement. My latest on the mind boggling self-enrichment:

I have the same thoughts about @SlowToWrite (Samuel Sey) that I have with all undocumented (or potentially undocumented) immigrants who are living productive otherwise law-abiding lives in the country.
1) Detention is a last resort, not a first resort.
2) If there is *evidence* that they are flight risk (not just suspicion due to immigration status) use an ankle monitor.
3) Detain them if they've committed felonies or are otherwise a threat to the public.
Oh, and deportation isn't always the right answer. If a person is married to an American, has a job, and has American kids here then it's usually going to be bad for us and for them to deport. We should *want* productive, peaceful people and families in this country.
Border security is very good. We should control who gets in this country and limit immigration to a pace that sustainable, doesn't overwhelm social services, and doesn't overtax communities.
Interior enforcement -- especially when dealing with people who are living productive lives here -- can be more perilous. There's lots of consensus to get rid of criminals. Let's do that and then talk about the folks who are living good lives here in the U.S.
I think the Reagan approach in 1986 (legalization plus more border security) was correct. We failed, however, at border security in the years and decades that followed, and that is a key reason for our present crisis.
I didn't realize it when I shared this but the person he's screaming at is a 22-year old female college student who is going to journalism school and good for her for giving it right back to his stupid old ass.

Nothing will ever convince me that someone else’s life is somehow worth less because they aren’t an American citizen, or isn’t a Christian, or has different color skin, or is a different gender, or lives differently than I do.

This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed.
This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.
Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.
Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children.
Abolish ICE.

I love what's happening in NYC right now.
A lot of mayors forget a key part of their job is spreading joy, @ZohranKMamdani doesn't.
