1️⃣ On March 2, 1836, Texas declared independence from centralized control.
Today, we need a different kind of independence — independence from overburdening property taxes, unchecked spending, & regulatory overreach.
That’s why we created the Texas Liberty Compact. 🧵
(🧵1/7) Texas Children’s Hospital has opened a detransition clinic under its $10 million settlement with Attorney General @KenPaxtonTX & the U.S. Department of Justice.
Here’s what the agreement requires & how it connects to Texas law. #txlege

(6/) The clinic & SB 1257 address different parts of access to care.
The settlement requires hospital-funded services for five years. SB 1257 establishes insurance obligations for applicable plans. It does not guarantee free care for every Texan.
(7/7) The next questions concern implementation: Can patients access appropriate specialists? How will outcomes be evaluated? What happens after the five-year funding period?

(🧵1/7) #txlege lawmakers have committed billions to property tax relief, but they have been reluctant to confront the spending that drives the tax burden.
The result: a growing state commitment to relief while Texans continue to face substantial property tax burdens.

(6/) School M&O taxes are only part of the property tax bill. School debt service taxes & taxes imposed by cities, counties, & special districts would remain.
Local spending & debt limits must accompany school tax reform so increases elsewhere do not consume the savings.
(7/7) Texas needs a measurable path toward eliminating school M&O taxes, supported by disciplined budgeting & a clear financing strategy.
Compress the rate. Discipline the spending. Eliminate the tax.

(🧵1/9) Texas Attorney General @KenPaxtonTX has sued @OpenAI, alleging that the company misled Texans about ChatGPT’s safety & failed to provide protections required for minors.
The lawsuit also seeks restrictions that raise broader questions about parental rights & access to AI. #txlege

(8/) The lawsuit invokes existing Texas law. The question is whether the restrictions the state seeks are justified by violations it can prove.
Broad decisions about AI access & product approval deserve public debate in the #txlege.
(9/9) Texas can enforce consumer protection laws while protecting parental responsibility, privacy, & access to lawful digital tools.
