Taiwan is more than chips and tensions with China. Its democracy deserves attention too. At Taiwan Corner, three experts explored November’s local elections and how they could shape Taiwan’s political future. The event was supported by Taiwan Foundation for Democracy. @brianhioe @donovan_smith @DafyddFell taiwancorner.org/why-taiwan-…

Taiwan needs greater international visibility including through cultural promotion. Yet as China pressures Taiwan on multiple fronts, the KMT wants to cut the Ministry of Culture’s budget. Objectively, this is the wrong time to weaken Taiwan’s voice abroad. taipeitimes.com/News/editori…

Interesting contrast between the KMT and DPP candidates in Kaohsiung, especially in how they speak to young people. The DPP comes across as more abstract and holistic, while the KMT is more concrete, including on incentives for younger voters. In politics, specificity can be a real strength. taiwannews.com.tw/news/63988…

It must be almost impossible for Denmark to join this good statement from European allies because Denmark considers Taiwanese as Chinese nationals.
It is good to see this strong statement from Europe in support of rule of law, peace and security, around Taiwan.

Giving Taiwanese Chinese nationality as in Denmark is also counterproductive. Pressure is not only from China but also from a democratic ally with high democratic values.
Taiwanese academics who were invited to attend an ocean forum in Kenya were denied entry. Yet another case of PRC pressure. This strategy of isolating Taiwan from the international community is counterproductive.

Easier for Chinese nationals to get elected in Taiwan? Whatever the details, the direction suggested by the KMT is simply wrong for any country not only considering the threats from China, but from a basic national perspective. KMT wants to be in government? taipeitimes.com/News/taiwan/…
