A Taiwanese comedian was allegedly targeted in a staged car attack. Since when did telling jokes become a target of transnational repression?
Five people were arrested in Taiwan after they were hired to attack a stand-up comedian with a car on the street. The comedian had made jokes about Xi Jinping months earlier. We must stand together to condemn the CCP’s transnational repression worldwide.

Citizens living in free and democratic societies continue to face China’s transnational repression. Such intimidation and coercion instill fear and undermine the very freedoms democracy protects. We must not turn a blind eye.
No one should face violence for speaking their mind. #Taiwan🇹🇼 strongly condemns #China's transnational repression following the indictment of 5 suspects in an alleged plot to harm a Taiwanese performer critical of the #CCP. Democracies must stand together against intimidation.

The reported attack on a #Taiwanese comedian, with links to #China, raises serious concerns about Transnational Repression. Violence or intimidation aimed at silencing political criticism must be condemned. Such acts have no place in a democratic society.

Maritime intimidation undermines peace & stability in the #IndoPacific. The 16 Chinese vessels detected around #Taiwan on Oct. 18, including coast guard, survey & suspected maritime militia ships reflect #China’s continued maritime expansion.
On October 18, we detected 16 Chinese vessels around #Taiwan, including 6 #CCG, 6 survey vessels, & 4 believed to be #maritimemilitia vessels. These activities represented a clear pattern of expansionism & provocation across the wider #IndoPacific.

Merci beaucoup! @yfblanchet
