Between approximately 12am-2am this morning, Firefighters & staff from the @OttawaHospital moved 17 neonatal ICU babies from the 8th floor ICU down the stairs to be taken to @CHEO due to the power loss. Most of the babies were under 1000 grams (2.2 pounds).
Also, prior to midnight, Firefighters also carried 4 women in labour down the stairs using chairs & multiple women who had just given birth so they could be brought to different hospitals. #OttNews

Overcapacity PICU. 100% of patients are ventilated. This season (post-COVID) is different with more aggressive viruses. Still, COVID is not shy to be present in some rooms.

Notwithstanding the heroic efforts of hospitals and HCWs, Ontario's pediatric healthcare system is in an unprecedented crisis.
Access to acute/critical care is imperiled, yet crickets from @ongov.
It's shocking that our elected leaders simply aren't showing up for our kids.

There are 122 Paediatric ICU patients in Ontario.
During the worst of Wave 3 the adult system was never pushed to 109% occupancy of physical ICU beds.
