Now that it is
the last week of October
if they ask why
you are wearing a mask
just tell them you
are wearing a costume
for a Halloween party,
and when they ask
what you are dressed as,
tell them you are dressed as
someone who gives a damn
about other people.

Two ways to genuinely keep kids safe on their way to school: Speed cameras, which this government outlawed. Bike lanes, which this government is ripping out.
Every parent wants to know their child is safe on their way to and from school. It's a peace of mind we want for every student, in every community. From kindergarten to high school, student safety is everyone's responsibility. This School Bus Safety Week, I remind all drivers to slow down, stay alert and take extra care around school buses and school zones throughout the school year.

Hmmm, @PaulCalandra said YES to removing speed cameras in school zones to protect his colleagues from being caught from speeding & stunt driving

Good to see that #COVID falls into the #Airborne category as per @GovCanHealth. "Tiny particles that stay suspended in the air & travel further than 2 metres." Now IPAC just need to make sure that @PublicHealthON provides the right guidance for #Airborne mitigations. 😷

At some point the media coverage needs to reflect how far out of touch this Minister and @fordnation education policy actually is. The original 4 boards under supervision were put there because of “financial mismanagement”. Bill 101 moved budget responsibilities to the new CEOs! There is absolutely no current justification for supervision. This attack on democracy continues to extend ministry centralization, while eliminating both transparency and accountability. @PaulCalandra and his merry band of patronage appointees have had total control for over 16 months. At what point does this Minister realize that he’s not up to the task? Candidates and voters in these 8 jurisdictions deserve to have the elected trustees sworn in the same day as ALL newly elected trustees. Bill 101 dramatically reduces trustee impact, the CEO’s option to veto trustee decisions and “not confirm” motions or decisions should be alarming. Let the public select their representatives and then allow them carry out their duties.
NEW: The Ford government says trustees in supervised school boards “will not be sworn in” immediately after next week's election. The province is asserting its power to call meetings in eight boards and trustees will only take their oath when the meeting is officially called. No timeline for when that will happen. globalnews.ca/news/12108029/… #onpoli

If your govt is so concerned about student safety why @PaulCalandra did your govt remove speed cameras despite the research that they work and keep pedestrians safer?

I've watched science and public health collide in real time, from COVID to polluted air in South Bay San Diego. People deserve to understand the science shaping their lives, and a voice in the solutions. I'm thinking about a podcast built on that. Would you listen? What would make you tune in?

Any ER, trauma, or critical care specialists in the Edmonton area not working this evening: If you haven’t already been contacted, please call local hospitals and see if your support could help. Thank you. 🙏
A serious incident creating a major fire has occurred at CFB Wainwright, in Alberta. Our thoughts are with all the brave women and men affected.   We are working closely with the Government of Alberta and local authorities. Premier Smith and I are in close contact as are our relevant ministers and officials.

Ariane, Dr. Filiatrault is a retired emergency physician who, back in 2003, when confronted with a patient from East Asia with an unknown influenza like illness at a Vancouver hospital ER, her team and her chose the precautionary principle. They implemented airborne precautions, and the SARS outbreak was managed successfully in BC. Toronto made a huge mess by not using the precautionary principle, and as a result, had a much larger outbreak with over 400 cases in 2 locations, with a 10% mortality, and disability in the majority of survivors. Henry was one of the primary decision makers in the Toronto mess, along with other dishonest actors. To my knowledge, Dr. Filiatrault has never been a primary public health/infection control MD. Yet that ER TEAM, yes team, in 2003 chose the precautionary principle and airborne precautions and had the COURAGE to hold fast in the best interests of patient care and staff protection. @LyneFiliatraul2 @BarryHunt008 @crwequine

🚨If you are wearing a N95/KN95 there shouldn't be anything expelling out of any place when you cough or sneeze. This is why medical masks don't work for #Airborne infectious diseases. I'd expect @AntibioticDoc to know this😷 ~7 yrs in, can't we do better cause we know better?

At ~21 mins, you recommend sneezing at others if masked. For logical consistency, when performing surgery, are surgeons wearing procedure masks now being instructed to sneeze into the surgical cavity? Surely, if this had merit, sneezing at OR patients would be the standard.

The public can barely manage hand washing and wearing masks. It took years to even train adults to sneeze or cough into elbows. Holding your masked face to sneeze into your elbow snugly is clearly superior to sneezing at someone else. How is this the advice being given?!

What is this messaging in service of, @NightShiftMD? We know N95-type respirators are far more effective than baggy procedure masks. If everyone wears N95-type respirators, infection exposure is reduced 96%. xitter.cf/RevivalCare/status/175…
Study of SARS2 in a university classroom. “The relative contributions of short-range airborne and long-range airborne transmission were 40.5 % and 59.5 %, respectively.” Takeaway: Respirators are necessary indoors, even with “excellent” air quality. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Health care/hospitals say they want to eliminate preventable harm but neglect masking. Masking only for respiratory season means they are willing to sacrifice the health of some for the convenience of others What happened to do no harm? #ProtectNotInfect xitter.cf/tdotmum/status/2109783…

What does getting a handle on Covid mean? 112 Covid outbreaks YTD in Toronto totaling 1440 eq. days in outbreak. Seniors in LTC and patients with HAIs b/c IPAC won't call COVID #Airborne. Rates of all outbreaks from 2022-25 are 3X the 2016-19 average. None of this is normal.

The on/off revolving door of mask guidance in health care seems bizarre to me 😷 should be a fixture of patient care, just as gloves & hand hygiene are: not a seasonal precaution, but a fundamental part of our commitment to infection prevention, patient safety, and doing no harm.

Flu & Covid shots should be part of "Back-to-School" prep BEFORE cases start to spike Waiting until Sick Season is well underway before vaccination even starts guarantees that a lot more ppl will get sick than necessary 🤒 It makes no sense at all
