below you see Michael, the least reliable narrator in LA (and someone @DavidZahniser should stop calling for quotes), was unable to keep it real during the election so it's not shocking he's full of shit today. Nithya won for three reasons: 1. Karen lost the race by not being able to overcome her own downfalls as mayor (rubber stamping anything the police asked for, not being able to get Trump to release fire aid funds or stop it with ICE, not fulfilling her promise about homelessness, being shady about bypassing @lacontroller's audits, and being a Mean Girl by taking Nithya off the homeless committee once she had the audacity to run for mayor.) 2. Instead of running on her decades of experience in politics, she went negative with lame ass Twitter accounts like @noshownithya and her favorite "influencers." Karen knows that tactic didn't work when @RickCarusoLA used them on her, but she got amnesia and tried them on Nithya. LA doesn't work that way. 3. LA wanted a change and Nithya was that fresh voice. LA rarely cares about who the LAPD endorses, and most Angelenos can barely name their own CM so when zero of them backed Nithya it seemed like more sour grapes than anything she did wrong. PLUS she had @kennethmejiaLA on her side, who Angelenos *do* know and respect. Bonus #1: When @spencerpratt appeared more afraid of Nithya than Karen in the first debate and later through the year, that probably swayed Independent Angelenos, who are clearly more liberal than people give us credit for, thought, "oh, Republicans don't like her? Then I do." Bonus #2: DSA Drama. DSA-LA is not a powerful operation and was a mess this year. Lots of voters are unsure who DSA is and don't really want to take chances right now. So when the three DSA CMs turned their backs on Nithya, coupled with the national DSA trying to expel her, it made her seem like a safe DSA person. Socialist enough, but not an extremist. This may have gotten her just enough of the Independents to get it over the line. The only advice I have for @nithyavraman other than ignore Michael, ignore Traci Park, ignore @CD13LosAngeles, is to pay attention to what the voters of LA just said in the ballot box which echoed what happened across the nation: Floor it. Push the envelope. Bring City Hall more to the Left than it feels comfortable being. The fact that zero people in City Hall endorsed you (other than Kenneth) proves that City Hall is out of touch with the voters of LA. Lead them out of their darkness. Start by removing Trump's star from the Walk of Fame.
🚨Election Call🚨 Councilwoman Nithya Raman will be the 44th Mayor of Los Angeles. Under 50 vote is now 45% of the market share, with no sign of that going down. She won without the standard DSA all-stars of Bernie Sanders, AOC, Mamdani or Ro Khanna endorsing her. It was a City Controller, a Supervisor and a merry band of dedicated volunteers who won this race. Free advice (I am sure me saying it has less value to her and her team). Go Big! Announce a series of Town-halls with Mayor Mamdani across the country setting the “urban agenda” before the 2028 Presidential Cycle, commit to making your endorsements together for the same Dem candidate. Use your bully pulpit for urban centers across the country, become a household name. Rise above City Hall. Or you can play City Hall games and find yourself stuck in the building. Good Luck!

Mayor Bass has shown she is not capable of leading our city through disaster. In LA’s darkest moments, she’s been missing in action. Our communities have already paid too high a price for her failures. Four more years is a risk Los Angeles cannot afford.

Nithya's takedown of Bass over her (latest) people-mover screwup is 🔥. Just clear, blunt honesty. It captures why I so much prefer her to Bass. Bass sees every problem as a political one, to be ducked, deflected, haggled over in private with local power brokers. Nithya sees them as technical ones to be understood and fixed with clear, accurate action. I've seen this for years: when she stood by dedicated Affordable Housing project in her district after Bass abandoned it amid pressure from HOAs (even though they were approved under her own initiative!). Nithya pushed them forward, though even the developer was a political opponent of hers, because she knew LA residents needed the homes and we would never solve our housing problems without them. We will never solve LA's broken systems unless we have leaders with understanding, vision and courage. We all deserve a city that works. I am proud to vote for one. youtube.com/watch?v=LLTmAsNf…

The City is making it almost impossible to level up in the Small Business Game. As Mayor, I’ll make sure you have a fighting chance to beat the bureaucratic bosses, and collect the coins our neighborhoods need to power back up. We’ve already lost gems like Oil Can Harry’s, the Federal, and Un Solo Sol – I’ll do whatever I can to make sure your favorite spot still thrives.

There are 30,000 broken streetlights in LA. It's time we turn the lights back on. It's time for a city that works.
