A confident person knows that she is loved. She does not fear being unloved, because she knows first and foremost that God loves her unconditionally. To be whole and complete, we need to know that we are loved. Everyone desires and needs love and acceptance from God and others. Although not everyone will accept and love us, some will. #JoyceQuote

Did you know that, out of the 13 health care clinics originally founded by the Black Panther Party, the only one still operating is in Seattle?
Member of the Black Panther party explains why they’re opening a clinic in Chicago, 1969.

Investing in historically Black medical schools means investing in a more just health care landscape for Black patients and Black health care professionals alike. I commend @MikeBloomberg for this and was so excited to hear this announcement at @NationalMedAssn’s convention today

#MemorialDay started as #DecorationDay , yet another African ritual in the US. May 1, 1865. South Carolina Africans did what We do: Pay respect to Ancestors. US saw, imitated, ignored roots. 202 years ago this week, #DenmarkVesey War was betrayed. We remember those warriors too.

On this day in 1946, Isaac Woodard, WWII veteran, hours after being honorably discharged, was attacked by South Carolina police while still in uniform when taking the bus home & left permanently BLIND The officers were acquitted by an all white jury. —Isaac enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C, and served in the Pacific Theater as a longshoreman in a labor battalion. In February 1946, the decorated soldier received an honorable discharge at Camp Gordon, which is located near Augusta, Georgia. Along with other discharged soldiers, Woodard boarded a Greyhound bus on February 12 to travel home. A conflict was triggered when the white bus driver belittled the army veteran for asking to take a bathroom break. At the next stop, Woodard was met by the Chief Linwood Shull of the Batesburg, South Carolina police. While still in his army uniform, the police forcibly removed him from the bus and arrested him for disorderly conduct. They beat Woodward, and the next day he was convicted of 'drunken and disorderly conduct' and fined $50. They also refused to take him to hospital after beating him for several days. The beatings that he suffered while in police custody caused him Permanent Blindness. 🖊️As the only admin behind this page, I try to research to educate. WATCH: Lesson 192 of @InClasswithCarr with Dr. Greg Carr (@AfricanaCarr) - “Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide”? What happens when you have nowhere to run? Nowhere to even hide, for a moment’s respite. Can’t find protection in the national legislature. Can’t find protection from domestic violence (guns). Can’t find protection in your own bed (Breonna Taylor). Can’t find protection from white nationalism (The GOP). Karen (@KarenHunter) and Dr. Carr explore all of this in the context of increasingly bright lines being drawn domestically and globally. #InClasswithCarr #AfricanaStudies @Knarrative
