And you people will turn around tomorrow and ask why Africa isn't industrialised or moving.
Everybody wants to talk about closing Nigeria's technology gap, building local capacity, and making advanced technology accessible to everyone.
But when robotics enters the conversation, suddenly everybody has gone offline.
ANYWAY, since the timeline has decided to ignore us, allow us to reintroduce ourselves.

Yesterday I attended AfriDex, the African International Defence Exhibition, where I presented Aurora Robotics' defence and underwater technology to leading companies and prospective clients. The feedback was very positive.
While at it, I took this picture and thought about how far Aurora Robotics (@aurora_robots ) has come to be in a room with people like these.
It is easy to forget where you started. People who become skilled often underestimate how much their foundation made them who they are. That is where we get statements like "school is a scam," "education is not it," or "we don't need theory, we need practical skills."
I disagree. Standing there, I thought back to:
✅ The day I wrote my first ROS2 program
✅ The day I built my first convolutional neural network
✅ The day I first tinkered on Tinkercad
✅ The day I tried to run an offline, local cryptocurrency network
✅ The day I wrote my first node for an autonomous mobile robot
✅ The day I decided to understand how a quadcopter works and the theory behind aerial robots
✅ The day I discovered the magic of templates in C++
✅ The day I moved the first motor of my robotic arm
Each of these is now part of a track in Core 3.0, Aurora's ongoing training programme.
When Aurora started, I designed this programme and taught it myself before bringing in more engineers and tutors. Those who learned with me one-on-one valued every part of it, and I am making sure Core 3.0 keeps that same standard.
I am not here because of the big things I am doing now. I am here because of the small steps I took first.

One year ago, Aurora Robotics set out with a clear mission: to close the global robotics talent gap and build autonomous systems that solve critical real-world challenges.
From foundational training to deep-tech venture backing, international deployments, and industry-level research
Here's a brief insight into what we have built and achieved together in our first year:
1. Talent Development & Education
Education is at the core of our engine. Over the past year, we’ve trained 200+ engineers across Africa and built a community of over 1,500 students and builders:
- Aurora Robotics Core Workshops & Cohorts 1 & 2: Delivered hands-on, robotics and autonomous vehicles training (ROS 2, SLAM, Nav2, Computer Vision).
- Aurora Educators Program (AEP): Currently hosting our free 6-week intensive robotics training program.
- Academic Strategic Partnership: Formally collaborating with the FUPRE Innovation, Enterprise & Development Institute (IIED).
- Aurora Global Scholars Program: Mentoring our community through top international scholarships (Erasmus Mundus, Chevening, Commonwealth, Fulbright) to build global academic and research capacity.
- FUPRE College of Computing Partnership: Partnered to deliver hands-on, practical robotics training to students during their SWEP (Students Work Experience Program).
2. Venture Backing & Venture Building
- Secured a Spot with Antler: Our co-founders, Aherobo Ovie (CEO) and Bakel Bakel Begededum (CTO), are joining Antler’s global network of founders, mentors, and investors to scale Aurora’s venture ecosystem.
3. Deployments & Breakthrough Products
- AEGIS-SUBSEA: Our flagship hardware-agnostic, AI-driven underwater pipeline inspection system. Tested in open sea in Spain and validated across 4 European universities and subsea energy companies, AEGIS-SUBSEA autonomously tracks pipelines and detects corrosion in zero-visibility conditions.
- Qorel: Led by Technical Lead Emmanuel Akingbade, Qorel is an intelligent industrial data platform engineered to process, log, and replay multi-site equipment data seamlessly through network and power outages.
4. Industry Contracts & Commercial Growth
- Multi-Million Automation Contract with Transy Limited: Won a competitive bidding round to power Nigeria’s first contactless payment system for informal transport (buses, danfos, and tricycles).
- Sety Intelligence Limited Partnership: Partnered to design and build battery-powered biometric fingerprint attendance and access terminals.
5. Applied Research
- Published 3 Papers at SPE NAICE 2026: Partnered with SkyPower and industry leaders to present groundbreaking research spanning:
- Solar/edge-AI crop protection (FarmGuard),
- Real-time underwater drowning detection (AquaGuard), and
- AI-driven hybrid energy optimization for offshore energy platforms.
