Teck Resources (TSX: TECK.B) has confirmed that its Highland Valley Copper mine in British Columbia is operating at reduced capacity following strike action involving 1,277 members of United Steelworkers Local 7619. The strike began October 24 after negotiations failed to produce a new collective agreement. The previous agreement expired September 30, with bargaining having started in June. In a strike mandate vote held October 16–17, all 944 participating members supported issuing strike notice. The labour dispute centres on wages, pensions, staffing shortages, employee retention and proposed contract concessions. Teck has implemented contingency plans to maintain operations, prioritizing safety and environmental management. The company has not revised its production guidance but acknowledged that the strike's duration could affect output. The disruption comes as Highland Valley Copper advances its mine life extension project, which is expected to extend operations from 2028 through 2046 and add nearly 2 million tonnes of copper production. Mercado Minerals (CSE: MERC) has extended the known strike length of the El Triunfo vein at its Zamora silver-gold project in Sinaloa, Mexico, by an additional 190 metres. Recent mapping and surface sampling have increased the vein's identified strike length from 180 metres to more than 370 metres. Chip sampling returned 381 g/t silver and 0.85 g/t gold over 1.55 metres, including a higher-grade interval of 815 g/t silver and 1.66 g/t gold over 0.60 metres. Additional sampling from a stockpile at a second historic working returned 674 g/t silver and 1.00 g/t gold. The Zamora property contains 14 known silver-gold vein occurrences representing more than 8 kilometres of cumulative strike length. None of these occurrences has previously been drilled. Mercado is currently preparing access roads and drill pads for an inaugural 1,500-metre drill program designed to begin testing the property's mineralized structures at depth. The upcoming drilling will provide the first subsurface exploration data from these targets.
