My girls got mail over the weekend from my principal and vice principal. 馃槶 Being a teacher is HARD. Being a mom is HARD. Being a single teacher mom is HARRRRRRRRRD. This made my day. For all teacher moms, this is for you too. You are seen. You are appreciated. Keep going. 鉂わ笍

Too many popular strategies for teaching reading aren鈥檛 actually supported by research. We sifted through to find the ones that are most effective! 馃攳

This. Don鈥檛 think the new box is going to be all you need. (I鈥檓 saying this not to Ts but rather those behind the box-buying).
Then let鈥檚 push for PD. Without it, nothing works. We ran a scale up last year with 80 schools and found no differences in ELA outcomes according to curriculum used (Wonders, EL etc) but the amount of PD provided mattered. PD in effective practices is the bigger lever

Love my job and my team!
Orchard Elementary K teachers visit every students home before school starts and provide them with Home Learning Kits - This has come in very handy for COVID Ed. Love our teachers, they always go above and beyond for their students. #homeschoolengagement

When I am overwhelmed and ready to give up, I go read a book to a student. Helps me every time.

I wonder how many teachers are close to breaking down or have broken down privately? #teachinginapandemic

馃憦馃徏馃憦馃徏馃憦馃徏 Mental health is suffering big time this school year. Look out for your teachers and respect their boundaries.
We teach students about boundaries, but few boundaries are given to teachers.Teachers can鈥檛 be expected to be available 24/7 for meetings, calls, emails etc. even if they鈥檙e teaching remotely. This type of expectations shows a lack of concern for their mental & emotional health.

So hard but so worth it. Love seeing my babies every day!
Having kids in person right now is really hard....and so darn worth it. Mask up and keep rolling!!! Don鈥檛 believe me? Watch a kindergarten student run into the building in the morning smiling under a tiny mask 馃憤馃憤

Dear Educators, Never take things personally when it comes to your students behavior. It is rarely about you and more about what they are going through. Remembering this has helped me so much.
Eeeek! I鈥檓 so excited! Thank you!!!

A5: Honestly things like this helps! Hearing from others - sharing resources & ideas - knowing you aren鈥檛 alone. Also, sharing the load. Working with your team to divide & conquer tasks - not trying to do it all yourself. Know your limits. #TeacherFriends
#TeacherFriends Q5: How can we best support each other in this time of unknowns? What do you need right now?

As a K teacher I鈥檓 going to do a lot of discussions on communication and feelings. Identifying what feelings we have and how to talk about it handle certain feelings. Knowing how to communicate things you need (i.e. quiet time, hug, reassurance, etc.)
Calling friends, spending time with family, talking with my small group from church are also things I do to relieve stress!
