“The bill says that in order for public libraries, including in public schools and universities, to remain eligible for grant funding, they must adopt the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights or adopt their own written statement prohibiting the banning of books.”
Finally, a breath of fresh air...

Something I’d like to share in these turbulent Twitter (potentially end)times is that
Librarians do surveys how everyone else does systematic reviews - completely winging it. There isn’t any basic social science methodology. Literally throwing questions into a Qualtrics form.

This is kind of random but public libraries are so important to me. I could go even far as to say it changed my young adult life. Library was a place to get away from unhappy home, get lost for hours in all the books, graphic novels, magazines, cd’s, etc. The summer reading

A book can’t turn your child gay.
Librarians are not making kids queer.
They already were. It is who they are.
Books help them figure themselves out.
Librarians help them thrive into who they are, & who they can be when they are loved.
Children have the right to be who they are.

A student asked me this morning for LGBTQ books. I asked her fiction or non fiction and she said fiction. Pulled up my lists and told her I had titles in realistic fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, horror etc. Her eyes got wide. "They make LGBTQ books in fantasy?!"

Sarah Weddington has died. She was not long out of law school when she filed Roe v Wade. She was just 26 when she argued the case before SCOTUS. She was just a year older than I and has been an inspiration and a hero to me.
RIP.
