🔥🔥🔥Important work in @JAMANetworkOpen! We found inpatients with ASB rarely had bacteremia--pts w/altered mental status and NO systemic signs of infection had <<1% risk. Really drives home that work up of other causes of altered mentation is key, rather than anchoring on UTI
‼️New in @JAMANetworkOpen w @HMS_MI: Risk of bacteremia in hospitalized adults with #ASB Key findings: In patients with #ASB, bacteremia from a presumed urinary source was rare: ~1.4% overall <1% in #AMS <1% in #AMS + #dementia ~3% if signs of sepsis 📰:jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

Children who get #COVID19 can get very sick, require hospitalization, and even die. They can also spread the infection at home and in school. Vaccination helps prevent infection and serious illness and slows the spread of COVID-19. More: bit.ly/3GLtqKX.

Today, I endorsed ACIP’s recommendation that children 5-11 yrs old should be vaccinated against #COVID19 w/ Pfizer-BioNTech pediatric vaccine. This expands vaccine recommendations to over 28M kids in US & now allows providers to begin vaccinating them. bit.ly/childvaccine

Another aspect of #COVIDvaccine is efficacy. Vaccines reduce the chance of severe COVID illness, hospitalization, and death, as shown here. Without vaccination, Over 2000 people die of COVID, with vaccination, this number is reduced to less than 30. #Facts matter.
