AI can warn a maintenance team that a machine may fail, but McKinsey argues that the opportunity lies in what the organization does next. A prediction is useful when it changes how maintenance is planned and carried out. That requires more than a model. Microblog by @antgrasso Suppose a warning arrives days before a possible breakdown. The repair still waits because the schedule has not changed or the required part is unavailable. The model has supplied information that the process cannot yet use. Who can act on that warning while there is still time? McKinsey estimates potential cost reductions and additional uptime across asset-heavy industries. Its analysis emphasizes redesigning the maintenance process so that insights can influence decisions and lead to timely interventions. I would put maintenance teams at the center of that redesign, giving them access to information while they are planning work and enough authority to adjust priorities. #IndustrialAI #Maintenance

EIS investment is at its lowest level since 2013-14. 51% of angel and seed deals are still in London and the South East. Our Autumn Budget submission, already with the Chancellor, sets out four pillars to change that. Read the paper: eu1.hubs.ly/H0zqBkC0

You have heard that AI consumes energy. Fine. But what exactly is using that energy while you type a prompt and wait for the answer? What you see on screen is only the result, so the energy behind it goes beyond the few seconds spent generating the answer. rt @antgrasso.

Hiring: Thinker-writer $80k starting comp - fully remote. You're a fit if you have: - Read 100+ books. - Gone viral on X by writing authoritative pieces on specific topics. - Chatted with at least one founder doing $10M+ in sales. - Written thousands of posts, articles, essays. - Also required being a native speaker Identity Labs helps CEOs of $10B+ companies share their greatest ideas, insights, and experience. We've worked with Deel, Gamma, Airwallex, Pocket FM, Lovable. The job is to help founders articulate their story & vision. We expect you to write industry-defining and narrative-shifting pieces. You need to be a clear thinker, analytical, and a top 1% writer. It's a very demanding role, but if you enjoy writing and business, it's a dream. DM me if you are a fit ___________ A few big ideas & innovations account for the bulk of progress. In the 19th century, industrialization, evolution, electricity. In the 20th, antibiotics, information theory, the transistor, internet. The ones that will define the 21st century are being created by entrepreneurs. However, they are typically too busy to get what's in their heads onto paper. We work closely with them to help them bring ten of those ideas into the world. Identity Labs is setting the agenda in tech. Distribution carries more leverage than labor or capital. A great product is no good if nobody knows about it. It's our job to help our partners be the talk of the town in a tasteful way. We are very meticulous when deciding who to hire. Identity Labs is at the very top of the industry, and we are only 15 people. We believe our track record is singular, which we owe entirely to the quality of our team.

Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi says we already have all the intelligence we need, and the opportunity now is applying it productively: "I think we already have AGI. I actually think we have achieved AGI. We just need to make it useful." "Apply it to everyday things that we wanna do, and make it valuable at simple things. That's all we need, and that's what's gonna prove out to be very, very valuable for everything, businesses, companies, organizations." "We don't need more intelligence, honestly." @alighodsi (UC Berkeley, 2025) Read the latest Profiles of the Future by @bhorowitz and @mikemcg0 on Databricks & the Future of the Firm: a16z.news/p/databricks-and-t…

Computer use is becoming faster than humans, and cheaper too OpenAI's Ari Weinstein: "We've gotten computer use now to a place where it's faster than the average human at using a computer, and I think we're getting really close to a place where it is superhuman." And it already costs a fraction of human labor per hour of back-office work: - Computer-use agent: $6-8 - Offshore outsourced talent: ~$10 - US back-office labor: $30-45
OpenAI's computer-using agents can now operate almost any app the way a person does, clicking and typing through software that never got an API, and the team building them says they're close to beating expert humans on speed. Ari Weinstein works on OpenAI's consumer computer use products, and James Sun works on the enterprise side. Both were startup founders before joining OpenAI. They join a16z's Seema Amble and Fabrizio Serafini to discuss what OpenAI's Astra model changed for computer use, the controls enterprises need for agents they can no longer watch, why computer use works as a universal API for legacy ERPs and finance systems, and why they think cheap software will push UI to get better and more personal. 0:50 What Astra changed for computer use 3:23 Consumer vs. enterprise computer use 5:43 How James runs his workday with Dots 8:06 When computer use becomes superhuman 10:01 How much autonomy to give agents 11:36 What agents mean for ad-supported sites 13:51 Computer use as the universal API 17:21 Getting enterprises to trust agents 20:22 Why the best use cases are the boring ones 25:37 Why UI isn't going away 32:38 Advice for founders building on agents 37:31 Making computer use feel coherent 40:57 Computer use's scaling moment YouTube: youtu.be/9v42ZOdiBJY @AriX @JamesZmSun @OpenAI @seema_amble @fabserafini

Replit's Amjad Masad with Gagan Biyani on how agents will reshape the way companies work: bureaucracy runs in the background, people get true autonomy, and eventually the company runs itself. Amjad: "In Silicon Valley there's been so many experiments to try to change the nature of firms, of how companies work... But I think it was a technology problem." "Now you can have agents kind of function as the glue within these organizations and have the bureaucracy be this invisible thing that's happening by machines in the background, and the people have true autonomy to work on the things that they find most interesting." "I see it in our company where I've changed how I run the company, and we call it this idea of a self-driving company. Eventually the company will run itself." Gagan: "The thing I feel very certain about is it's all gonna change. It's gonna change a lot faster than you think. And if you're not natively understanding of it, it's gonna be hard to make that shift." Amjad: "If you're learning the ways of the past, then you're kind of locked into a way of thinking and a way of working that actually will put you at a fundamental disadvantage in the future." @amasad @Replit @GaganBiyani

If you use AI, do not stop using your brain. An AI suggestion is one possible option, not a decision already made for you An answer may sound convincing and still leave something out. Give it the same attention you would give any advice affecting your work Microblog @antgrasso Before accepting a recommendation, check what it is based on. Does the system have enough information about your situation? Would you accept the same advice from a colleague without asking a question? Explore another option, even when the first suggestion seems reasonable. You can ask AI to propose alternatives, then compare them with what you know. If the original recommendation still makes sense, follow it. There is no need to disagree with AI just to prove you are in control. But keep the possibility of changing your mind. When new information arrives, reconsider the decision. What would make you choose differently today? AI can suggest a direction. You should remain free to take another one. #HumanCenteredAI #AIDecisionMaking
