Your kid counts the number of bedtimes you miss.
Not just physically.
Mentally.
Don't comment. Put the phone down. Go be with your kids before bedtime.
They have 936 Saturdays before they leave your care.
Systems Dad always says, "Good mornings start with good nights."
Say good night to your precious child, and then be ready for a fun morning when they wake up.
- Pancakes
- Scrambled eggs
- Maybe some donuts
- Put it out on a platter and eat with your hands, or make it a sophisticated breakfast. NOTE: Plan this the night before so you know what kind of clean up you're in for.
- Get out Chutes and Ladders or whatever game they are currently into
- Focus on them.
I know you've got a ton of pressure at the office. I get it. I manage my own load, my own team, and two other program teams. The call from Slack is real.
Ignore it.
Be there.
I remember this night well.
Buffalo Wild Wings, after worship practice.
We get settled and our wings are served. We lock into the game and say nothing.
One Rangers fan at our table saying "It's over" over and over again.
When this one is launched, the whole restaurant gets to its feet and starts high-fiving each other. Even the Reds fans in our party (one is now my wife).
Then it was over. You could tell. Cardinals were a team on a mission.
My friend Jeremiah buys 2 tickets and takes his Dad to Game 7.
What a special day/weekend.
You know what to do.

It's a scary thing to put your work out there knowing you have zero control over how people will react.
Praise? Criticism? Apathy?
However you choose to respond, I appreciate you listening. If you like what you hear (or know someone who might), I'd love some work :) #voiceover #freelancer #bookme
I just updated my page @ TheSystemsDad.com.
Instead of trying to create another full site, I leaned on the one-page:
1. Who I am
2. How I help
3. What I'm currently doing
4. My apps and offerings
Instead of building more and more, I needed something simple.
I didn't write about rest to get promoted.
I wrote about Sabbath and leading yourself first because I needed it.
Keith Burnett nails this: lead yourself before you lead others.
Keith brings a lifetime of experience and education to helping others develop healthy leadership skills. Keith is a pastor, ministry leader and entrepreneur. That positions him to help a variety of leaders put on their own mask so they can lead others more effectively.
Keith developed his Guide To Effective, Healthy Leadership to help others successfully manage change and lead more effectively. The steps are simple; transformation is never easy, but the results are real. Keith’s guide is linked below.👇

This is why we buy back our time at home.
There's not much time.
There's not much time.
When are we getting better, not just faster? @caefurd
I'm still struggling with unforgiveness and bitterness toward a specific group.
Fasting and listening to Unoffendable.
I am waiting on a word from the Lord. I can love this group of folks well.
Pray for me.
(and to resist whoever is grilling, that's good)
Managing AI agents was both fascinating and exhausting.
Building them out and babysitting every step had added up to real mental fatigue.
The opportunity felt boundless until I realized I was the human stuck watching over all of it.
I removed 155 lines of persona prompts from my AI agent config, and now I run direct technical constraints with a human gate on the output. The agent does its work inside those constraints. Human communication stays with me.
I'm still holding the line on closing down at 4:50.
Several new folks here - welcome!
How I got here:
1. University advisor on track for a professorship
2. A moment of choosing
3. Data analysis on the side
4. Professional BA
5. Implementation coordinator and all around software guy
6. Project and program manager
7. Leader
Every step taught me how to upgrade.
The biggest one I'm still learning: how to leave work at work and be present at home.
You've heard of calendar teardowns.
What about calendar build ups (not adding more, but thoughtfully reflecting on what is working)?
Anyone willing to let The Systems Dad evaluate your work and home schedule?
Taking the first 10 volunteers.
Dad fixed cars and fences.
I fix software and install your RAM.
Built different.
This week I had an auto repair that I was told was a $900 job.
I decided to tackle diagnosing it with Grok.
A systematic approach worked for something that's intimidated me for years.
Send so many DMs that X thinks you're a bot.
I just got flagged as not human.
I'm trying to up my game; I take this as a sign of growth.

I’m irrationally optimistic that we can get to 1,000 teammates before the end of the month.
Who should I be following?
- Dads
- Girl dads
- Tech nerds
- Builders
- Productivity geeks
- Sports guys
Shoot me some names.
He’s @BaldVoiceGuy now, and you can still hire him.
Today's still a good day for you to hire @elbowfanatic.
Voice - he is the voice
Production - he masters it
Creative - he does it for you
You'll like the way your ad, podcast intro, narration, etc look.
I guarantee it.
I am grateful for the community @NCCSpringfield. We pray for each other, we know each other, and we serve each other.
I am glad I have them to do life together, to lift me up, and to encourage me.
Into a great week, team.
