At 6pm today, administration from @uwinnipeg met for the first time with protesters from the People's University for Palestine, the protest encampment that has been occupying the University of Winnipeg's front quad for three weeks.
Basra clarified that the University of Winnipeg Foundation is a separate legal entity from the U of W, with its own separate board, CEO, etc, & that the endowment is managed by a separate 3rd-party organization, which is a signatory of the UN Principles of Responsible Investment
With that, @uwinnipeg admin representatives left the quad and entered Wesley Hall, while protesters chanted "Free Palestine."
At no point did the university administrators mention Palestine, Israel, the war in Gaza, or the humanitarian concerns raised by protesters.
