This man just took the same plastic recorder that used to sound like a dying goose in elementary school and casually started shredding Sultans of Swing on it. Eyes half-closed, fully committed, fingers flying like he actually practiced this instead of just surviving Hot Cross Buns. Somewhere a music teacher is watching this and having an existential crisis. The recorder has seen things. It will never be the same.

Earlier this week, we spent time talking as a class about how we choose what to read. The conversation was really insightful, with the importance of peer recommendation and representation coming through strongly.

Happy #PostboxSaturday, fellow postbox spotters! Delighted to go on an actual Postman’s Path up in the Lake District as found in Alan Cleaver’s lovely book, The Postal Paths. It even included a trip on a narrow-gauge railway… 😁📮📗🥾🚂

Only a few lamp boxes ever had Post Office signs, and sadly none survive. But they were a sight to behold, weren't they! #PostboxSaturday

The DFE writing framework has a whole section on oral composition and the importance of talk before (and as a tool for) writing!
Then, when every child is in school, they are in a speaking, listening, reading, writing environment, whether oracy is taught or not. There's talk about writing and reading. Much of the writing arises out of talk and uses oral forms eg contractions, dialogue...

Look at this-my work has come back into fashion! Of course, it never went out of fashion at all. Communication and language are central to everything we do in EY ! It’s almost like we know about child development @MichaelRosenYes !

You used to be able to buy a stamp at the post box! This large King George VI post box has a stamp vending machine attached, so you can't use not having a stamp as an excuse for posting that birthday card late! #letterboxstudygroup

schools giving increased attention to language sounds good but it comes with many risks - the most obvious being the further entrenchment of deficit thinking. me and @choudrey_s anticipate this and how to resist it in our linguistic justice oracy framework doi.org/10.1080/00131911.202…
“With AI on the rise, we need to go harder on the skills that makes us human, like oracy. That ability to articulate yourself confidently is central to success in work and life, but for too long it’s been a marker of privilege. Now it will become the right of every child.” Read more 👇 thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

I’m delighted to see people objecting to the idea of assessing and/or examining oracy. However, some of those people have no objection to examining reading and writing.

The Penfold Postbox is an icon of our streets - so much so that replicas were made from the 1980s right through to the 2010s and put on our streets. This attractive green example bears a plaque commemorating its 2016 unveiling 10 years ago. #PostboxSaturday

All the Feelings in the Room by Diego Estebo is a brilliant book for introducing EYFS children to the language of feelings. The story takes place at Alma's party, when everyone who arrives is feeling different: excited, shy, proud, angry. It's perfect for developing empathy.
