Johannesburg gets hijacked buildings while Cape Town gets new skyscrapers 😭
Cape Town’s Foreshore is getting a tall new neighbour with 94 apartments, 7 penthouses and a 5-star hotel with 155 hotel rooms valued at R2.5 billion😮🏙️ Senzo Tsabedze, founder and executive chairman of Afrirent Holdings, secured a long-term lease of the 1680m2 site from the City of Cape Town in 2024. The 35-storey mixed-use building will sit snugly right next to the CTICC 2 in Cape Town. Construction is set to begin in April next year. Afrirent Holdings is putting R2.5 billion of private money into it, with the City of Cape Town backing the project. Development Details: • Development name: ThirtyFour18 (named after the building’s geographic coordinates) • Developer: Indalo Hotels and Leisure Group (subsidiary of Afrirent Holdings) • Location: Heerengracht Street, Foreshore, in front of CTICC 2 • Development mix: 94 apartments, 7 penthouses, 155-room 5-star hotel, 4 floors of premium-grade office space, retail • Height: 35 storeys • Amenities: gym and spa, rooftop restaurant, sky bar and swimming pool (the developer hopes to secure a Michelin-starred restaurant), another restaurant on floor 6, co-working and meeting spaces on floor one that connect to the CTICC • Engineering: about 90 piles, each roughly 27m deep, on a tight site squeezed between the CTICC and a busy arterial road • Job creation: +- 2,500 during construction and 400 permanent • Timeline: concept revealed 26 October 2026, public launch January 2027, construction from 22 April 2027 (subject to approvals), completion April 2031 For decades, the Foreshore has been the part of town people drive through on their way somewhere else, and it empties out after office hours. The City says it wants Cape Town to run as a 24-hour economy. If that’s going to happen, you need people living right next to the convention centre. Pricing and floor plans aren't available yet, and a lot can change over a four-year build. I’ll share pricing as soon as it’s out. Would you live on the Foreshore? Let me know in the comments.

“We have a political economy of inefficiency and it’s by design. We churn out policies like GEAR, RDP, ASGISA, NDP - these give an optical illusion that something is being done. Where are all these policies today?” - Prof. Somadoda Fikeni

LGE 2026 | DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis says the ANC's decline must mark the beginning of South Africa's recovery. He has urged voters to make Wednesday, 4 November, a turning point that demonstrates the country can still work.

No one wants to kill the ANC bra, the ANC is self destructing. Explain to me why the economy has not grown nowhere near 2% - a measly 2% - since 2009? Explain to me why unemployment is north of 35%? Explain to the JHB resident who has to deal with days on end without water, refuse removal, potholes and no street lights why the ANC is their "inheritance?". The city of Johamnesburg cant even publish its annual report on time. You are living on sentiment and vibes bra.
To kill the ANC can never be a good idea. It is our inheritance, born out of pure noble ideas & aspirations, created to fight not only for its day, but a projected future. In its 100 years, after too long, it achieved it’s objectives & must yet do more. Born at the worst of times, when it cost you to fight.

🚱 Understanding Johannesburg's Water Crisis This video does a really good job of explaining the current water crisis and why so many residents are experiencing ongoing interruptions. I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to watch it. It helps put the situation we are facing into perspective. 🎥 youtu.be/C_DAjEMgIJY?si=42dl…

Seeing Helen Zille really ruins my day. What an irritating fossil

The only way you can say a policy is good or excellent, is through implementation and results. If a policy has not been implemented, we cannot speak of its excellence.
The ANC's policies may be good, but do you trust its leaders to deliver those effectively? Khalid Sayed speaks about this, and more on our Democracy Unplugged recorded in Cape Town. Watch on our Podcast Party Youtube channel.

My final prediction for next week’s election in Jozi: we end up with the same model of government as Tshwane. ANC, EFF, MK, PA, ActionSA and others. The ANC will probably hold half the MMC positions, most committees and, crucially, control over board appointments. The patronage networks survive. We’ll get a puppet mayor. Probably someone who speaks well and provides a superficial veneer of “change”. The BOSA lady or the RISE guy would be perfect for that role, and Panyaza knows it. Someone else gets the mayoral chain. The ANC keeps the machinery. I think we’re entering an even more toxic era of governance in South Africa, where the political face of a government has increasingly little to do with who controls it or where it’s heading. They’ll go online, speak beautifully and sell the illusion of progress while nothing fundamentally changes. The ANC continues to plunder the republic, and clever blacks on Twitter get their “gotcha” moment. Apparently, watching a different person explain the same collapse will count as change. I hope I’m wrong. I would be the happiest person in the world to be proven wrong. That being said, Vote Zille ffs.

What are they hiding at the Alexander Reservoir? Yesterday we went to the reservoir in Kensington, where we were prevented from going inside the premises to hold a briefing. The ANC and smaller parties don’t want you to see the conditions of the city’s water infrastructure. We have a plan to fix it! #BelieveInJoburg #Zille4Mayor
