Ladies: Are your social media feeds or those of your girlfriends telling you to freak out about some vague impending doomer situation? Just doing some research.

Glenna did an unusual thing that people typically don't do: she checked a citation in a law review article to see whether the citation said what the authors claimed it did.
She found that the citation said the opposite of what the authors claimed it did.
She then asked the editor of the law review for a correction.
The editor did not reply to the request.
She then asked the authors for comment on the incorrect citation.
The authors acknowledged that the citation was erroneous and regretted the error.
The authors then insisted that the citation did not matter to their actual argument because nothing in their argument depended on the citation being right.
Glenna then wrote a post explaining why the erroneous citation was in fact important to their actual argument, and why the erroneous citation also exposed a wider ignorance of the subject on which the authors were writing. (She claims, convincingly, that it's important to know what sex is in order to understand what sex discrimination is, and that being able to define what sex is is an inextricable aspect of knowing what sex is.)
I consulted with some lawyer friends in a chat group who helpfully explained to me that no one ever reads footnotes, no one checks the underlying references, and no one cares if they are correct or not because law review articles like the one Murray and Shaw published are merely political advocacy masquerading as legal scholarship that no one reads, and therefore not to expect the Supreme Court Review to issue a correction for a citation that the authors are on the record admitting was erroneous.
Do I have all that right, @williambaude?
I’m reminded of Graeber’s original essay frequently strikemag.org/bullshit-jobs/
NEW: "It’s been hell." "I’m dead inside." "I honestly don’t know if I will ever find work in the U.S. again, let alone D.C." "It’s akin to screaming into a void."

Ya'll, this is nuts.
Hundreds - that's right, HUNDREDS - of armed robberies between 2022 and 2024 weren't real.
They were staged by the "victims" as part of a massive immigration fraud scheme to secure U-visas for themselves and their families.

Things I love about Tombstone:
- Kurt Russell leaving his boring wife for some rando skank and this is presented as heroic
- It came out in 1993 but Sam Elliott looks exactly the same as he does now
- Everything Val Kilmer does
- Everything Billy Zane does
- The opening scene where the bad guys come into town and shoot everyone at a wedding. I stood up and CHEERED. You could have ended the movie right there and I would have been happy.
- How Earp’s lunatic Revenge Tour of Murder was pretty much real and the cops had to be like hey … you’re not actually allowed to do that.

The “cannot be refused due to national origin” thing in Civil Rights Act being twisted into “non-citizens must be treated the same as US citizens for all entitlements” has been the biggest legal mistake in US history
Were our ancestors driven by an inexplicable desire for adventure and exploration or were they just thinking “I need to get the fuck away from these people asap”

Maryland cost-of-living index shown much higher than virtually all neighboring states, except NJ. Gee... couldn't be...
✅️ Regressive, ever increasing taxes on energy / gasoline
✅️ Obsession with unlawful migration
✅️ Insane property taxes (and therefore higher rents)

Massachusetts is the most expensive state on the continental United States to live in.
Latest MERIC data (Q2 2026): 48.1% above the national average. Only Hawaii is higher overall, but among the contiguous states, we’re #1. Housing and utilities are the biggest drivers.
What do you think also contributes to Massachusetts ranking this high? What do you think is the main reason?
Thank god we can find and intercept lost hikers as they mistakenly run away from rescue in dense forest!
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks.
By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time.
Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.
