This massive CMHT reorganisation is starting now & we are ignoring lessons from the ‘early adopter’ sites, instigating big changes with little staffing.Without a big investment for the region,we are guaranteeing many more years of failing CMHT services locally #ManchesterStrikeMH

GMMH Trust & GM commissioners have no more money. Worse, Manchester is £180 million ‘in debt’. We desperately need investment & what NHS England & Central Government are ‘offering’ is more austerity and an insistence of further cuts to local services. #ManchesterStrikeMH

Now much needed ‘community transformation’ has started across the country. Although Manchester CMHTs are 1% of the country’s CMHT population, we received 0% of the £2.3 billion a year funding & 0% of the £975 million yearly ‘transformation preparation funding’ #ManchesterStrikeMH

Our failing Manchester CMHTs mean patient distress, health difficulties & mortality rates have increased significantly. We’re trapped paying millions for ‘out of area’ hospital beds & agency staff, instead of investing the preventative funding needed. #ManchesterStrikeMH

Unfortunately for us, GM commissioners and politicians prioritised mild to moderate mental health and ‘getting people back to work’ since 2019. This decision disadvantaged and discriminated against patients with more serve and enduring mental health needs. #ManchesterStrikeMH

With 60% higher need for mental health services in Manchester and only £145 ‘per person’ in funding (compared to the £210 ‘per person’ nationally), GM commissioners have an impossible job to do. #ManchesterStrikeMH

Multiple CQC inspections and independent reports have identified that Manchester community mental health services for people with more severe and enduring mental health difficulties (CMHTs) are failing desperately. #ManchesterStrikeMH

In more detail: In 2020, NHS England identified that £1.03 million of ‘ringfenced’ funding for Manchester Early Intervention in Psychosis Services (EIS) was given to Greater Manchester (GM) Commissioners, but we received no investment then or since. #ManchesterStrikeMH

We are a small service & so our impact will be limited without the support of the public. Please assist us to publicise & encourage this new government to address the current crisis and invest in local Early Intervention & community mental health services. #ManchesterStrikeMH

Our community mental health services in Manchester have, for years, been deprived of the resources we need to do our jobs safely & effectively. We can no longer tolerate the negative impact that this is having on our community mental health patients. #ManchesterStrikeMH

I’ve had people ask why I’m speaking out, and my answer is this: I have so much pain that I will never be able to get rid of, and so I am choosing to channel it. I intend to use that pain to drive change, and if I can help even one person, then that’s enough. – at Glasgow, Scotland

Michael Rosen is a beloved figure, for his writing, his poetry, his expressive oracy with children now and bigger kids like me who also grew up with him, with fond memories of doing so. For one of his most well known books to be used in such a crass, depraved antisemitic attack on him by a director of an organisation passing itself off as an authority on fighting such things was horrifying, for Rosen to be blamed over the man's death later and still to this day, is equally so. Those attacking Rosen on this basis are shameless and turn my stomach. Solidarity with Mike the mensch! #DamoRants #MichaelRosen
