GMorgen 🖤 Happy Friday, and I hope your weekend is now or soon off to a beautiful start. If you don't have other plans, a visit to a museum or gallery, perhaps? Never know what you might see when wandering, ja? Viel Liebe 🖤🤍 A little context for the above thought and a recent daily piece, A Day Off: I've spent a lot of time wandering in the Boston MFA whenever possible, for events and just in general. One of the museum's galleries is set up in a Paris Salon style, the Penny and Jeff Vinik Gallery. One of the rather engaging sculptures there is "Nydia, the Blind Girl of Pompeii" by Randolph Rogers, 1856, pictured below. This sculpture and a surreal daydream thought were key reference points for my piece. The thought was, what if the statues and sculptures had some time away from their museum gallery homes, perhaps a day off with a bit of art history reading and a leisurely cup of coffee or two? A classical Greek goddess sculpture reading modern art history in the museum's cafe? Why not, right? May you have a bit of time this weekend for daydreams and curious thoughts. Nochmals viel Liebe 🖤🤍 PS: If you look at the paintings on the gallery wall, the curators included a commissioned easter egg of sorts.
