When someone who’s had a tough year says they’ve nothing to celebrate this holiday season, it’s not an invitation to lecture them on being grateful. It’s an opportunity to listen, hold space, respect where they are, and be compassionate. They’re not ungrateful. They’re hurting.

Asking young girls, boys & children to speak up is not enough & especially in a society where the adults, institutions, & systems responsible for protecting them fail to do so, it is dangerous.

2. Our priority must be building systems that protect children, holding institutions accountable, and ensuring that adults who fail them face consequences. We must push for this with the same intensity with which we tell children to use their voices. Maybe even more.

Otherwise, we risk hanging children out to dry, without demanding enough from the adults & institutions entrusted with their safety. We cannot keep teaching children to use their voices if we are unwilling to use ours to ensure their voices count for something.

The WILD thing is, I’m almost certain that every woman speaking on this issue is triggered in some way, carrying her own anger, pain, fear, and exhaustion while still finding the strength to speak up. Queens.

To the media houses: stop reaching out to us as psychologists to come & discuss the traumatic impact of sexual abuse when you also platform people who spew vile, toxic, criminal nonsense unchecked It’s giving performative concern for children. Do better

A lot of people are not going to like this As a therapist who knows how much adults struggle with emotional regulation it’s WILD that we beat children predominantly for struggling to regulate their emotions.

Adults should be beaten everyday if emotional dysregulation is a valid reason for beating a child. Adults throw tantrums, get irritable, snap, speak & behave rudely when they are dysregulated Yet we beat children for the same thing.

Adult brains which have the capacity to regulate, regulate poorly, yet its children with their still developing brains that we are beating. This is NOT about excusing bad behaviour. It’s about understanding that you don’t teach children emotional regulation by beating them.

Belittling your nanny, insulting your driver, humiliating your intern, yelling at your assistant on the phone on the drive to school, then being shocked that your child is bullying other kids at school is WILD.

October has a lot for us to hold Breast cancer & Pregnancy & infant loss awareness Month & World Mental Health day (10th) Three often overlapping causes that need education & compassion. No gimmicky nonsense. Adults have serious conversations seriously. Let’s be serious.
