The joys of streaming. Last night, wanted to watch Aldritch's Kiss Me Deadly. Eventually found it on Philo. Some ad breaks, no captions, but otherwise everything was fine - for an hour. At which, the film just... stopped. THEY ONLY HAD 2/3 OF THE MOVIE! How does that even happen?

El-Sayed: "People don't trust our party because too often we're funded by the very same people who fund Republicans... Can we actually cut the cord that we've had to corporate money and start governing like we give a damn about working people?"

so true, & so obvious. not to hold the guilty to account often signals complicity. do they belong to the same exclusive D.C. clubs? (probably, yes.) do they play golf together? (you may be surprised how political "adversaries" cozy up together in the equivalent of Old Boys' Clubs.) Sarah Kendizor has exposed Merrick Garland's entanglements with the very people he should have been investigating; & Garland is just one of many.
"We need to restore faith in government, and that starts with holding people to account for their corrupt or criminal behavior. We tried the 'let bygones be bygones' approach in the Biden era, and look where it got us. All it does is embolden bad people to feel like they can act with impunity. The Oversight and Judiciary Committees should exercise their subpoena and investigative powers and begin building cases that could be sent to a future DOJ or state attorneys general for prosecution. The era of self-dealing, of crypto scams, of kickbacks, and of selling access is over." plus.briantylercohen.com/p/t…

I know high prices and the disastrous war with Iran probably drove the change we saw last night, but “fondly do we hope — fervently do we pray” that rejecting the bigotry, racism, chauvinism, and fascism from many soon-to-be-former elected officials played a huge role as well

The best thing? To know that my neighbors aren't all fascists and pedo enablers. It took a while, but people finally woke up.

A note to Democrats, based on mistakes we’ve seen here in the U.K.: assume these votes have been lent to you, not given. Now govern in such a way that you earn them. Then, perhaps, they will stay with you. Whether this is a temporary wave or a permanent change? On you.

Lucy White says Britain has always been White, always Christian and always culturally homogeneous. All three claims are false bigoted bullshit aimed at the gullible and at dumb ignorant racists. Britain’s earliest modern inhabitants came from elsewhere. DNA analysis by the Natural History Museum and UCL suggests Cheddar Man, our oldest near-complete skeleton, had dark skin and blue eyes, and that pale skin arrived in Britain much later. In Roman York, around one in ten people buried in the Yorkshire Museum’s collections were of likely African descent. One emperor, Septimius Severus, was born in Libya and died in York. Henry VIII’s royal trumpeter, John Blanke, was African, and Henry paid for his wedding clothes. Christianity began in the Middle East and arrived here under Rome, after centuries of pagan belief. Pagan Anglo-Saxons and Vikings followed, and England had to be converted again from 597. One of the earliest identifiable Christians in York, the woman known as the Ivory Bangle Lady, had North African ancestry. Jewish communities lived here from 1070 until their expulsion in 1290, and returned in 1656. Today, the 2021 census found that fewer than half of people in England and Wales describe themselves as Christian. As for cultural homogeneity, Britain is a union of four nations, with several languages still spoken and a history shaped by Celts, Romans, Saxons, Vikings and Normans. For centuries after 1066 the English court spoke French. Protestants and Catholics fought over this country’s soul for generations. Homogeneous is about the last word any historian would choose. Lucy White is the British representative of the Save Europe Act, which campaigns for “remigration” and to protect what it calls the “ethnocultural continuity” of Europe. The European Commission refused to register it as a citizens’ initiative because it would amount to discrimination on grounds of race and ethnic origin. If you can convince enough gullible politically and historically illiterate people that Britain has always been one race, one faith and one culture, then millions of British citizens begin to look like a mistake that needs correcting. The real history is far more interesting, and it belongs to all of us. Britain has always been made by people arriving, mixing and changing what it means to be British. Rewriting that history to serve a political project is pure #propaganda, and it deserves to be called out.
Britain is not ‘multiracial’. We have always been White. Britain is not ‘multi-faith’. We have always been Christian. Britain is not ‘multicultural’. We have always been culturally homogeneous. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

One of the funniest things I've ever seen. And I've seen everything.
RIP Patrick Stewart. What an actor. I still can’t believe he agreed to do this scene. And he didn’t even mind when I ruined every take. Legend.

Very sad to hear of Patrick Stewart's death. A great actor, and a truly inspiring life story. He played a lot of popular parts, but the one I really remember him for is "Green Room", playing against type as a Nazi skinhead.

The US is the only country in the world where people believe government-funded healthcare won’t work because people with government-funded healthcare told them so.
