Finding turnout gear for a 6-foot-5, 330-pound NFL defensive tackle isn't exactly an everyday request for Charlotte Fire, but we made it happen!
Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Derrick Brown, No. 95, traded his football gear for Charlotte Fire turnout gear today at Firehouse 11, joining our Rescue 11 and Engine 11 crews for a hands-on vehicle extrication demonstration. And we've got to give him credit. He handled the powerful Jaws of Life equipment impressively well, getting a firsthand look at the strength, skill and precision firefighters use to rescue people trapped in vehicles.
But behind the excitement was an important message. During National Teen Driver Safety Week, we're reminding young drivers that the decisions they make behind the wheel can have life-changing consequences. Our firefighters see those consequences firsthand, and preventing crashes is always better than responding to them.
A big thank you to USAA for bringing this event together, to Derrick Brown for stepping into our world for a morning, and to our Rescue 11 and Engine 11 crews for helping make today's demonstration a success.

I've seen a lot of bad football over the years, and that was the worst offensive half I can remember.
-More penalty yards (83) than total yards (47)
-4 three-and-outs, 5 punts
-0 chunk plays
-2.4 yards per play
Tim Albin was a play-caller at Ohio prior to taking the head role there & needs to take over immediately at Charlotte.

The Panthers currently lead the league in neutral pass rate
Through 15 Weeks in 2025, CAR had a 49.8% rate (31st)
In 6 games since, including playoffs, it's 63.1%
That would rank first in 2025

Per #Panthers, Devin Lloyd is the first linebacker since 1982 (when sacks became a stat) with 8+ tackles, 2+ INT, a return TD and a sack in the same game. What a day for 55.

Sack, two INTs (incl. a pick-6), another PBU, eight tackles ... and NFC Defensive Player of the Week award incoming.
It's 34-3.

Central to the success for the Panthers offensively today:
1. On schedule. No more early season play clock issues. Operationally sound, pre-snap.
2. Moving the line of scrimmage, establishing a run game to be honored.
3. Boot game, early.
4. RAC YDS!!! Was MIA in 2025.

Tom was excellent at his job. It was a pleasure working with him during my time at Charlotte. He was a calming influence for me, especially after tough losses. Most importantly, Tom was a wonderful friend and family man.

I hate this news.
Tom was renowned for how great he was at his job, but he was an exemplary human. He was the last of the "old guard" sports comms pros, and we'll try to keep doing it the way he did. May God watch over his loved ones.

That is more points than UMass scored in any game last year.

Vested veterans (not subject to waivers) on the #Panthers roster bubble who can give the cut process some flexibility if needed:
- TE Darren Waller
- WR David Moore
- G/T Jake Curhan
- OT Stone Forsythe
- RB AJ Dillon
- CB Robert Rochell
- CB Akayleb Evans
- S Isaiah Simmons
- OLB Cam Gill
(Since there’s confusion: They’d become free agents immediately after release and can sign anywhere, including a p-squad.)
