BOSTON - Today The Boston Globe Editorial Board announced their endorsement of Republican candidate for Massachusetts State Treasurer Elizabeth Dionne. The Boston Globe’s endorsement of Elizabeth Dionne against the 12-year incumbent State Treasurer marks the first time in the Boston Globe’s 154-year history that the paper has endorsed a Republican challenger to a statewide Democratic incumbent.
“I’m honored to have earned the endorsement of The Boston Globe. Throughout this campaign, I’ve raised serious concerns about how the Treasurer’s Office is being run, and I appreciate the Globe recognizing that these issues deserve attention,” stated Dionne.
“Massachusetts taxpayers have a right to know how their money is being spent. That starts with an independent audit of the Treasury. Through the State Lottery, we also need to take a hard look at how the state can provide more local aid to cities and towns, easing the pressure on municipal budgets and lowering property taxes for families struggling with the cost of living.
“None of this is about party politics. Good government is non-partisan. It’s about making government work better for the people and protecting their tax dollars.
“I’m grateful that The Boston Globe looked beyond party labels, independently evaluating both candidates and our different proposals. After 12 years, a fresh set of eyes in the Treasurer’s Office is long overdue.”

Sheriffs used to be able to call federal authorities to have violent criminals in their custody removed. Now they can’t, and if they do, they could be personally liable and sued. 12 of Massachusetts’ 14 sheriffs, Democrats and Republicans, have warned that the PROTECT Act could mean people with histories of violent crimes are released without notice to federal law enforcement. Violent criminals should not be protected. Sheriffs should not be sued for getting violent criminals out of our state.
