I think it’s worth noting which hospitals are NOT declaring major incidents. Different hospitals operate different levels of ‘open disclosure’ when it comes to being overwhelmed.

931 patients waiting on a bed in our EDs. All have been assessed and require admission. Inhumane conditions for patients and staff. The core problem is capacity, in the past decade successive Governments have failed to increase capacity to meet the needs of a growing population.

I was profoundly saddened to learn of the accidental death this week, in his native India, of Mohideen Khan, one of the most gracious, good-natured and kindly nurses it has been my privilege to work with in my 40 years in medicine.
