It was a pleasure to accompany Min. @karinagould on her visit to Clairvue Co-op.
We love her description of co-ops: “people who have come together, are supporting each other... and do what they can to help each other and get to a place of thriving.”

For generations, co-ops have offered quality, #AffordableHousing to Canadians through their community-oriented model. #Budget2022 proposes to reallocate funding to expand co-op #housing in Canada. 🇨🇦 ow.ly/tnGZ50IEzbY

Watching the Liberals very slowly ratchet up housing efforts as the housing temperature rises reminds me of how long it takes to see good and bad housing consequences land. It was 94/95 when the federal government bailed out of social housing.

Agreed, happy coops r figuring in the budget, and T’oya̱xsut nüün, Thank you for re-iterating the glaring and ongoing discriminatory policies of government-consider taking intervenor status when we take Canada to the international forum for this blatant behaviour.
Replying to @TimoRoss
I’m deeply concerned by the lack of progress + commitment to support a by Indigenous for Indigenous Urban, Rural and Northern Indigenous Housing Strategy in #budget2022. The PBO report says there’s a $27.6 billion housing deficit. $300 million over 5 yrs to CMHC doesn’t cut it.

A new tower in Vancouver, including 117 new co-op homes, is expected to be ready by the fall of 2024.
The building will include units with rents at 30% of household income, units for those receiving income or disability assistance, and market-rent units. dailyhive.com/vancouver/3338…

Relatively affordable rental housing is being lost at an alarming rate with devastating impacts for people and communities. We need to help co-ops and non-profits acquire rental housing, to keep it affordable and secure, while also building more.

I’m a proud co-op kid and I couldn’t agree more with this article. More high-quality, accessible and community driven public housing is one of the best ways to combat the housing affordability challenges our country is facing! 🇨🇦🏡

“Governments have to decide if they're willing to allow housing to continue to be an asset class in someone's investment portfolio or if they're interested in creating market conditions in which housing can simply be a home for someone.”

"they don't struggle with the cost of housing in 1 of the most expensive cities in Canada. That's because they live in co-ops."
Co-ops create more than reliable, safe, affordable housing
They create communities.
My grandmother helped start a co-op on Cambie in Vcr.
Proud of her.

We know that co-ops can greatly improve access to #affordablehousing, while providing people with the social support they need. So why aren't we building more of them?
