124+ journalists were killed last year. The deadliest year for reporters on record.
A free press is at the core of democracy. It is necessary to safeguard human rights.
We must keep up the work to protect journalists from coercion and murder, and safeguard their critical work.

Out of the 124 journalists who were killed in 2024, it's reported from CPJ that 82 were killed at the hands of the Israeli military in Gaza and Lebanon amid the war.
Killings of journalists also occurred in Sudan, Pakistan, Mexico, Syria, Myanmar, Iraq and Haiti.
