Fighters like Volkanovski and Yan remind you why you watch and appreciate MMA.

Officially, 5 completed takedowns in 58 attempts. Control time just 1:54. Over all three fights, Merab was 18 for 136. Merab's relentlessness is a weapon, but Yan forcing that inefficiency is crazy.
Matthew Wells@MrMWellsOct 24
So Merab has over 50 takedown attempts and couldn't keep Yan on the ground for any sustained period. #UFC333

I just beat the guy who chased you around the Octagon for five rounds. Shut up and go train. You’re not on my level. See you soon . #maybe

This second title run didn’t have a whole lot of meaning until now. What a massive win on Volk’s resume. Just an all-time MMA great we are witnessing. And I hate to admit it as an Aldo fan, but if you call him FW GOAT, I ain’t arguing.

Hey booking cards with matchups of real importance and depth produces memorable events. They should do this again! Great event.

Volk, DJ, GSP. Not saying they're the 3 GOATs, necessarily, but to me these are probably the most complete and intelligent mixed martial artists ever. Brilliant tacticians who can adapt to nearly any type of fight. Great thinkers in a sport where brawn is often king.

Crazy how Volk was once (briefly) considered a boring decision fighter with no personality. A lot of people were totally put off by him during his come up in the UFC. Look at him now.

Pretty confident that both of these guys are better than basically every other bantamweight ever.

I shiver at the thought of what Petr Yan would do to herky jerky Dominick Cruz.

Yan basically said let me know when you’re done constantly shooting takedowns so I know when to start fighting.

Mike Malott is holding it down for Canada and guys in their mid-30s. I cherish him.

With the UFC in Edmonton tonight, it seems like a good opportunity to acknowledge my old friend Tim Hague. He was the first fighter I ever interviewed, and a very sweet and supportive guy. Gone way to soon. RIP Tim.
