Definitely been kept from NEC in the recent past, triggered partly by my and @DanGreenJournoās reporting on it for @LabourList.
No wonder if this is true.
Labourās membership figure has been dubbed one of the partyās āmost closely guarded secretsā.
It's even been said specific data has been kept from the national executive committee for fear of leaks.

The MPs' Public Accounts Committee will launch a mini-investigation into Andrew and Royal Lodge after our front-page exclusive:

Strong comments from Jim Gamble damning politicians of all parties on child grooming.
It "has been used for point-scoring," he says. "The last thing survivors need is in-fighting... There's a lot of people with their own vested interests in this, and they know who they are."
Jim Gamble, who has withdrawn as the frontrunner to become chair of the grooming gang inquiry, has blamed "political opportunism and point-scoring".
