Seems nobody came out to fix this.. still rattling away like a goodun.. ^RM
Hi @Se_Railway your ticket machine at Hildenborough is knackered and unreadable. Can this be high up on the list for replacement? ^RM
How is everyone finding the Charing Cross closure? No change? Travelling less? Longer journeys?
Personally while the trains are quieter, as someone who normally takes the tube a short hop from Charing Cross, it's not ideal to have a longer (and busier!) tube journey instead. ^KJ – at London, England
No trains between Tonbridge and Orpington this weekend due to Engineering works. Trains are instead diverted non-stop via Redhill. Good to see @Se_Railway making use of that route, and running them with 12 carriages splitting at Tonbridge. Lots of capacity and no changes! ^KJ – at Tonbridge, South East
After a good few days in Zürich it is sadly time to come home - with the S2 to Zürich Airport being our last train. While we could travel home by train too, alas I had some airmiles to burn. It was interesting comparing the two though, security etc. was much faster with Eurostar! – at Zurich, Switzerland
And having not had enough of mountains (or trains) over the past few days... we head out again and jump on a S10 commuter service to Uetliberg. This is Europe's steepest standard gauge adhesion railway (i.e. normal wheels on rails - no use of a rack!) at a gradient of up to 7.9%! – at Zurich, Switzerland
At Landquart we switch to the 11:48 IC3 service to Zürich, which takes just over an hour. Another double-decker train, it gives us great views over the various lakes.
As an aside, SBB's app is very useful for tracking journeys - even popping up a little station map for changes! – at Zurich, Switzerland
Our last long train journey is today, starting with the 09:47 RE3 service from St. Moritz to Landquart. The tables have a map of the network on them which is pretty neat. These trains are fairly new too, but still have a few opening windows - great for unobscured photos! – at S-chanf, Svizra
As for today itself... we took one of Switzerland's panoramic trains, the Glacier Express. This is a nearly 8 hour journey from Zermatt to St. Moritz. However, it's express in name only averaging around 24mph due to plenty of steep slow ascents and descents.
Yesterday, we went up to the highest open-air railway station in Europe - at a (literally) cool 10,132ft!
The railway company had a combined ticket offer that also included snowshoe and sledge hire - so even though we weren't skiing we still had a lot of fun with great views! – at Zermatt, Switzerland
