The Dallas Mavericks pulled off the greatest heist in NBA history...
Against themselves.
Their “franchise destroying” trades may just have been precisely calculated moves.
Here's why basketball's most controversial trade might actually be an economic masterstroke: 🧵

Every bucket from Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson in the win last night…
They combined for:
79 PTS | 26-50 FG (52%) | 15-31 3PT (48.3%)
Scary hours in Dallas. 👀

Nikola Jokić & @luka7doncic are two of the NBA’s best players. Jokić already has 2 MVP’s, & a Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy after his nuggets beat the Heat in last year’s final. Dončić is a 5 time All Star, & the NBA’s top scorer.
“Basketball Nerd”, @JCrossover articulated how both have overcome an athleticism deficit with skill & intelligence. Luka gets to any spot on the court with his pace dictating the pace of defenses, & Jokić is not looking at you he’s looking past you… playing your coach’s scheme more than the defenders.
@ThePivot X J. Crossover.
