1/ Advocates keep claiming cannabis doesn't kill anyone. This statement is false. First, cannabis can kill directly by causing heart attacks. CDC data reveals hundreds of deaths annually where cannabis and no other drug is listed as a secondary cause of death by poisoning...

It’s not too late for @fordnation to abandon his failed privatization scheme. Over 50 municipalities have banned private cannabis retailers - a clear sign that the people of Ontario trust the #LCBO to handle cannabis sales more responsibly #CanLab #OnPoli buff.ly/2RxR4FS

The great @bencareynyt (full disclosure - we co-bylined pieces) looks at the science - nytimes.com/2019/01/17/healt…. His takeaway: "In short: Regularly using the new, high-potency cannabis may indeed be a risk for young people who are related to someone with a psychotic condition."

This gentleman - arrested repeatedly on marijuana-related charges in the year before (allegedly) stabbing a woman to death last week and then hiding, naked, in his garage - also missed the memo that cannabis doesn't cause psychosis or violence. duboiscountyherald.com/b/det….

2/ What is very striking is that the papers where a rate ratio is calculated generally show that marijuana is as or more likely to be associated with violence as alcohol. Given that alcohol is known to cause violence, that fact alone calls for a reconsideration.
Beau - Don't know if you have read the book yet, but many of the studies that I cite are post-2012. I found few studies before 2010 (your paper cites 9 solid papers in all). As you correctly said, "the literature focused on marijuana use is insufficient."

Just reading the responses to my @NewYorker piece on the unknowns about marijuana. I’m puzzled why pot advocates would be hostile to the idea of learning more about the consequences of their habit. Haven’t we been through this w the climate deniers?
