In 2018, 3 high schoolers hit 95 at the Perfect Game National Showcase. In 2024, 36 did. 😳 The same thing happened in the big leagues: 📈 125 MLB pitchers averaged 95+ on their 4-seam in 2015. In 2026: 306. 📉 39% of MLB pitchers averaged under 92 mph in 2015. Today it's 14%. ⚾ The average MLB 4-seam went from 92.6 to 94.4 mph. The velocity bar your son is chasing isn't the one you grew up with. But MLB's own pitching-injury study (Dec 2024, 200+ interviews) named velocity and max-effort throwing as the likely main drivers of arm injuries. Velocity isn't the enemy. Chasing it without a foundation is. 1️⃣ Build the engine first: legs, trunk, strength 2️⃣ Train velocity on a plan, not 12 months of max effort 3️⃣ Rest is part of the program Pitchers, coaches, scouts, parents: is the velo era good for baseball? 👇 💬 Comment "DNA" for a free MechanicsDNA velocity analysis. 📲 Send this to the parent still chasing last decade's number. An MLB arsenal in slow motion. ⚾🔥 Eric Orze: fastball, cutter, sweeper, splitter. Same delivery, four completely different pitches. His splitter was 48% of everything he threw in the big leagues last year. Which one would you hate to face? Comment 1, 2, 3 or 4 👇 Want to know what's holding YOUR velocity back? Two pitchers. Both chasing 90. Only one still throws at 18. ⚾ One built his body first: strength, speed, two seasons, real rest. The other chased the radar gun 12 months a year, with max effort and no foundation. This isn't a scare story. It's what the research shows: 📊 Pitchers who threw more than 100 innings in a year were 3.5X more likely to suffer a serious arm injury (Fleisig et al., American Journal of Sports Medicine, 2011, a 10-year study of 481 youth pitchers). 📊 When adolescent pitchers who needed shoulder or elbow surgery were compared with healthy pitchers, the strongest links to injury were overuse and fatigue (Olsen et al., American Journal of Sports Medicine, 2006). Velocity isn't the enemy. How you chase it is. Build the engine (legs, trunk, strength, mechanics) and the arm doesn't have to do it alone. 👇 Comment THROW and I'll send you a free arm risk assessment. 📲 Send this to a baseball parent whose kid hasn't had a month off in two years. (Illustrated example. The pitchers shown are not real athletes.) WATCH THE RADAR. 47 MPH. 🔥 Clayton Evans just set a new PR on the 3X med ball separation throw. For reference: pro pitcher Eric Orze's best on this throw was 48. Clayton is 1 mph away. Med ball velocity doesn't come from the arm. It comes from the hips firing first while the trunk stays back, then everything releasing at once. Build that and the baseball follows. Want to know what's holding YOUR velocity back? Comment THROW and I'll send you a free arm risk assessment. 📲 Send this to the pitcher who thinks med balls are just for warmups. #pitchingvelocity #medball #throwharder #baseballtraining #TopVelocity

Pause your pitcher's video at foot strike. Look at his chest. If it's already turned to home plate, his hips and trunk opened together. The stretch that whips the arm is gone, and that's velocity he's leaving on the mound. Hard throwers look different: front foot down, hips open, chest still closed. The research backs it up. Professional pitchers rotated the trunk significantly later than college, high school and youth pitchers. Among skeletally mature pitchers, they also had the lowest shoulder rotational torque (Aguinaldo, Buttermore & Chambers, Journal of Applied Biomechanics, 2007). Try it tonight: film from the side, pause at foot strike, check the chest. Want a second set of eyes? Comment THROW and I'll send you a free arm risk assessment. Who threw the nastiest pitch in baseball this year? We ranked every pitch type by 2026 Statcast pitch value. 🧬⚾ 4-Seam: Jacob Misiorowski Slider: Dylan Cease Curveball: Braxton Ashcraft Changeup: Walbert Ureña Splitter: David Bednar Sinker: Nolan McLean Cutter: Sandy Alcantara Swipe for the grip (demonstrated by former MLB pitcher David Aardsma), the velocity, spin, movement and whiff rate of each one compared with the MLB average. Then look at the last slide. 6 of the 7 threw their pitch harder than the league average for that pitch, by an average of 2.7 mph. Movement matters. Velocity makes every pitch better. How does YOUR pitch grade? Compare your velocity, spin and movement with MLB benchmarks with the FREE TopVelocity Pitch DNA Grader: 👉 topvelocity.org/grade-my-pit… Save this for your next bullpen and send it to the pitcher who needs to see the last slide. Which one would you want to face with two strikes? 👇 Data: Baseball Savant / Statcast, 2026 regular season, pitchers with 100+ PA ending on the pitch. Pitch value = run value. MLB averages for velocity and movement are for same-handed pitchers; spin averages are for all pitchers. Grips are demonstrated by former MLB pitcher David Aardsma (TopVelocity 3X Pitching Grips course), not each listed pitcher's exact grip. #PitchingGrips #PitchDesign #PitchingVelocity #TopVelocity #PitchDNA

SINKING ISN’T DRIVING. ⚾ Watch the first move—not just the arm. ❌ Going down without moving toward the plate. ❌ Reaching forward without the loading cue. ✅ Lowering while the hips move forward. Our cue: DOWN + FORWARD. TOGETHER. The goal is to load the back leg as you move, instead of treating the drop and drive as separate actions. Watch the MechanicsDNA examples: first, the X shows drop-then-drive. Then the check shows down and forward together. Follow the hips through both deliveries. Treat this as a coaching cue—not a fixed inch-for-inch rule for every pitcher. Want a starting point for reviewing your own delivery? Try the FREE MechanicsDNA Mini: one video, five training markers, a 2D review. topvelocity.org/mechanicsdna… Find it under Free Tools at TopVelocity.org. Contact details requested. ARM-SIDE MISS? WATCH YOUR CHEST. ⚾ Before you change your aim, watch the sequence. Brent breaks down early chest rotation, an arm-only correction, and a hip-first cue you can compare in your own video. The cue: during the stride, let your hips lead and let your trunk follow. Watch when the chest turns and where the throwing arm is at that moment. An arm-side miss alone doesn't tell you the cause. Use this as a checkpoint for your delivery—not a diagnosis from one pitch. Check your delivery with FREE MechanicsDNA Mini: one pitching video, five 2D training markers. topvelocity.org/mechanicsdna… Contact details requested. No account or credit card required. Save this for your next bullpen video review. #TopVelocity #PitchingMechanics #BaseballPitching #MechanicsDNA

ON TIME. STILL MISSED. Watch the World Series with a different question: WHERE did the bat miss? In the 2026 MLB regular-season data, 11,601 of 23,132 tracked four-seam whiffs were classified “on time.” That’s 50.2%. “On time” means within Statcast’s ±7-millisecond window. It doesn’t mean perfect timing—and it doesn’t guarantee contact. Among those on-time misses, the fastball and curveball showed very different vertical patterns. Same timing label. Different questions for the coach. We also tested whether swing-error patterns improved future whiff-rate forecasts. The gain was small in one model and did not hold across model families. The methods and results are included in our research brief. The takeaway: a whiff is an outcome. It is not a complete diagnosis. 4 lift styles. 2 to fix. ⚾ The issue isn’t simply whether your lead leg extends. Watch the whole move. ❌ Over-rotating. ❌ Aggressively kicking the front leg. ✅ Extending the lift leg while holding closed. ✅ Internally rotating the lift leg while holding closed. The last example is the inward-turning, Japanese-style lift I coach. The takeaway: an extended leg doesn’t automatically mean an open delivery. Review how the lift, stride, hips and trunk work together. “Hold closed” is a coaching cue, not a command to stop your hips from rotating. Save the four-way comparison for your next bullpen, or send it to a pitcher working on the same move. Same pitcher. Same landmarks. Different clock. ⏱️ One demonstration takes about 1.27 seconds from peak leg lift to foot plant. The other takes about 0.73. That is a visible timing difference—not proof that a shorter timer automatically means more velocity or less arm stress. Here’s the useful next step: look beyond how fast it appears. Review your stride length, foot plant, max layback and release together. MechanicsDNA gives you a closer look at stride length and event timing in a 3D report. The example values shown belong to that report; they are not targets every pitcher should copy. Want a clearer view of your delivery and a training plan to work from? What would your fastball actually do to big-league hitters? 👀 Not a video game guy with made-up ratings. TopV Unleash builds YOUR pitcher from your own numbers: → velo, spin and movement from your PitchDNA → your delivery from MechanicsDNA → then drops you in a 3D stadium against 8 levels of hitters, high school to pro Every pitch gets broken down the way your bullpens do: spin, spin efficiency, IVB, horizontal break, extension, and how far you missed your spot. Want it to feel like a console game? The TopV controller is pre-mapped for it. Comment UNLEASH and I'll DM you the free 7-day trial link. 46.8% Whiff. There’s more to a changeup than the grip. One MLB changeup produced 252 whiffs over 538 swings in 2025. Hitters batted just .154 in at-bats ending on that pitch. The MLB changeup average? 30.9% Whiff. But there isn’t one effective profile. The three changeups in this carousel averaged 88.0, 86.3 and 79.8 mph—and each held hitters below .175. Choose a grip. Measure the pitch. See what your version does. Get your FREE PitchDNA pitch grade: TopVelocity.org → Free Tools → Pitch Grader (PitchDNA) topvelocity.org/grade-my-pit… Enter your pitch type and velocity. Add spin, induced vertical break and horizontal break if you have them. Full report requires your name, email and phone. Save this for your next bullpen. Send it to the teammate developing a changeup. Source: MLB / Baseball Savant, 2025 regular season, CH only. Whiff% follows MLB classification, including foul tips.
